About the role:Â
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Before School Program Coordinator oversees the Before School Expanded Learning program at elementary school sites (TK – 8) intended to encourage a culture of learning by providing students with the knowledge, skills, and resources for academic and personal success.  Programming may occur inside or outside of the classroom during before school hours from 6:30-8:00am. Activities may include tutoring, personal enrichment, life skills, recreation, and other activities that facilitate success.
A Program Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation, and oversight of programming including the supervision of Youth Leaders who work directly with students. Â Under supervision from the Program Quality Supervisor, a Program Coordinator trains and evaluates staff, and works closely with school administration, faculty, parents, and students to ensure that programming meets the needs of the school and its students as well as the polices of the California and/or Federal Department of Education.Â
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
A Program Coordinator in the Before School program works with elementary or middle schools. Programming typically occurs before school for 1.5 hours per day and involves academic support, purposeful recreational activities, and a variety of other skills and confidence building activities that students engage in. The Program Coordinator provides oversight for a multiple before school program sites.

Qualifications:Â
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor’s Degree, or, four years of experience working with youth in an educational setting.
Education and experience can combine for the 4 years (i.e. AA and 2 years of experience). Â
Ability to pass a district examination for instructional assistants.  A Bachelor’s degree, experience supervising staff, and developing program plans is highly desired.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Must have an interest in working with at-risk youth to help them achieve to their highest potential. Â Ability to understand the needs and differences of children. Â Requires the ability to balance emotional support and discipline to deal with child behavior problems. Â Excellent organizational and managerial skills, attention to details, and sound judgment. Â Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Â Must be a team player. Â Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, students, and parents. Â Must be punctual, dependable, and responsive to supervision.
LANGUAGE & COMPUTER SKILLS
Strong writing skills. Â Competence and comfort with computer applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and web-based communication tools, such as e-mail and Internet. Ability to speak Spanish is desired.
PHYSICAL SKILLS
Requires the ability to observe the activity of children and others. Â
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires completion of Live Scan Department of Justice And FBI Criminal Background Check, and TB Test.
Condition of Employment & Benefits:
This is a part-time casual, non-benefited, non-exempt position with an hourly wage of $25/hour. This position requires the candidate to be available to work five days per week, Monday through Friday from 6:00am-11:00am. Specific times and schedules vary, depending upon the needs of the organization. Hours of work will vary but not exceed 40 hours per week, averaging 29 hours per week in a 12 month period. Specific times and schedules vary, depending upon school assignment and program needs. Â
