Luminary

Senior Solutions Engineer - Electromagnetics & Physics AI

Luminary helps engineering companies be more competitive by getting to market faster, creating new, better products, and reducing development risk. We do this with our Physics AI platform, the fastest and easiest way to build and deploy models to understand and instantly predict physical reality with precision. Customers span industries from automotive and aerospace, to leading sporting equipment providers, including Otto Aviation, Joby Aviation, Piper Aircraft and Trek Bikes. Luminary is a Series B company and is headquartered in San Mateo, California.

Full Time | Eligible for Hybrid, Remote

Solutions Engineers are the technical backbone of every Luminary AI opportunity. You'll partner with Account Executives to lead pre-sales engagements from first discovery call through pilot. We're hiring SEs grounded in a specific physics discipline — electromagnetics, in this role — who bring that depth to Physics AI use cases across our customer base. The role is technically heavy: most of your week will be in demos, validation studies, and surrogate model evaluation, with the rest spent on the commercial motion — qualification, scoping, proposals, and executive storytelling.

What you'll do in this Role:

  • Run discovery and qualification on new opportunities, translating customer pain into scoped Physics AI use cases
  • Build demos, benchmarks, and validation studies using Luminary generated data or customer data
  • Contribute to applied R&D in AI/ML for electromagnetics — evaluating new architectures, prototyping surrogate workflows, and stress-testing model performance on real customer geometries and frequency regimes
  • Own the technical narrative in customer meetings — from engineer-level deep dives to VP/CTO storytelling
  • Collaborate with internal product and engineering teams to translate customer needs into Luminary platform enhancements
  • Present at customer sites and industry conferences to demonstrate Physics AI capabilities

What we're looking for:

A self-starter engineer with the ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder technical evaluations. Primarily:

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, RF/Microwave Engineering, Applied Math, or related, 2-5 years of post-PhD experience in computational electromagnetics, technical sales, or applied research
  • Hands-on EM expertise across high-frequency applications (antenna design, EMC/EMI, signal integrity, radar cross-section, RF/microwave) and/or low-frequency applications (electric machines and motor design, induction heating, wireless power transfer, electromagnetic shielding)
  • Fluency in commercial solvers (HFSS, Maxwell, or similar) and the underlying numerical methods (full-wave FEM, MoM, or FDTD)
  • Working knowledge of multiphysics workflows — electro-thermal, electro-mechanical (motor NVH), or coupled EM-structural — and how EM behavior drives system-level performance
  • Working knowledge of Physics AI and ML surrogates (neural operators, GNNs, transformers for PDEs)
  • Python proficiency for scripting, automation, and API/SDK workflows
  • Strong commercial instincts — you can read a room, qualify fast, and tell a clean technical story to a non-technical buyer
  • Willingness to travel (~25%) to customer sites across North America

Ways to Stand Out:

  • Background working with aerospace, defense, automotive (e-motor, EV), semiconductor, or telecom customers
  • Experience with PyTorch and frameworks like PhysicsNeMo, Modulus, or equivalent
  • Experience with HPC environments and cloud computing platforms

Eligibility: This role is limited to U.S. Persons. Candidates must be based in the United States and satisfy all listed requirements. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship now or in the future.
