About the role
The Accounting Clerk supports the day-to-day operations of the Accounting department by performing routine data entry, recordkeeping, and reconciliation tasks. This role assists with accounts payable and accounts receivable processing, maintains accurate financial records, and provides general administrative support to the accounting team. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working with numbers and spreadsheets in a fast-paced environment.
What you'll do
Accounts Payable & Receivable Support
- Process invoices, code expenses to appropriate general ledger accounts, and prepare invoices for payment
- Assist with preparing and mailing customer invoices and statements
- Post payments received and apply cash receipts to customer accounts
- Match purchase orders, receiving documents, and vendor invoices to ensure accuracy
- Follow up on outstanding invoices and assist with basic collection calls as needed
- Assist in resolving billing and payment discrepancies with vendors and customers
General Accounting & Recordkeeping
- Maintain organized and accurate financial files, records, and documentation
- Prepare and update spreadsheets to track expenses, payments, and account balances
- Support the preparation of routine financial and management reports
- Assist with audits by gathering documentation and supporting schedules as requested
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; no degree required
- 2-3 years of experience in an accounting, bookkeeping, or related clerical role
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., formulas, VLOOKUP, Xlookup, pivot tables) and the Microsoft Office Suite
- Basic understanding of general accounting principles and practices
- Ability to learn and effectively use accounting/ERP software
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial recordkeeping
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
Preferred
- Associate's degree in accounting, business, or a related field
- Prior experience with an accounting/ERP software system
