About the Position

The Vertical Video Supervising Producer will co-lead the vertical video team, under direction of the Director of Audience Engagement. This position’s primary responsibility is to both manage the creator program and ensure timely production of short vertical videos that tap into current and emerging events in the news cycle.


The Vertical Video Supervising Producer role requires a high-level of self-sufficiency, strong management skills and the ability to recognize and respond to relevant news quickly. This position will manage our creator program, editors, and vertical producers in conjunction with the other Vertical Supervising Producer to identify emerging news and produce relevant video content on short timelines. 


The Vertical Video Supervising Producer will oversee the conceptualization, scripting, producing, and editing of short, news-driven videos. They must have significant experience scripting, producing and editing news-driven videos with the technical and narrative skills to create powerful stories that hook viewers and keep people watching. The position requires management experience, self-sufficiency, strong collaboration and communication skills, and a strong understanding of More Perfect Union’s editorial lens.


Core Responsibilities

  • Report to and work with the Director of Audience Engagement to plan and execute vertical, news-driven video content.
  • Manage producers, creator lead and editors on the Vertical Video team, supporting their professional growth and ensuring the team meets publication deadlines, editorial standards, and performance goals
  • Provide editorial and production guidance to creator leads for creator-driven content, and ensure that videos meet a high standard for substantive, timely reporting
  • Work closely with the other Vertical Supervising Producer to oversee the vertical video team, manage editorial priorities, and ensure the team operates as one cohesive unit
  • Work closely with the Director of Audience Engagement and Editor in Chief to assign stories, approve pitches, and shape stories in conjunction with producers and creator leads
  • Oversee all aspects of video creation with producers, creator leads, and editors: planning shoots, ideating visual concepts, reviewing outlines, interview questions, and shot lists, as well as reviewing scripts and edits.
  • Ensure publishing schedule is up to date, projects are on target, and publishing goals are met. 
  • Coordinate with the social media team to plan distribution and engagement strategies such as copy and on-screen titles
  • Hire and work with freelance producers and editors to execute videos as necessary
  • Ensure contracts are sent for freelance producers and editors and work is completed on schedule
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet expected deadlines
  • Maintain high standard of work in a nimble, fast paced environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Experience/Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in advocacy, news, and relevant video communications roles.
  • Minimum 2 years of management experience.
  • Strong understanding of issues affecting the working class, the economic justice advocacy space, and the new media landscape.
  • Familiarity with digital content creation and production, Adobe Creative Cloud, and current social media analytics platforms.
  • The ability to stay up to date with the news cycle and add a new lens on trending stories, a desire to lead the news cycle, and passion for creating media narratives that empower the working class.
  • Proficiency in social media management, editorial calendars, and content management systems.
  • Understanding of content analytics tools and data-driven decision making.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
