Shared Youth Housing Coordinator

This position requires a high level of mobility, meaning the successful candidate must be able to swiftly move and adapt to different situations and tasks.  This may or may not also include different agency locations or locations within the community being served.  A person in this position must be able to perform with or without accommodation the essential functions of this job including any physical requirements associated with this role. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be routinely exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  If the position may require the use of any personal protective equipment, New Avenues will have such equipment on hand for the employee’s use.

$21.00 an hour.  Full-time; Monday through Friday 9am to 5:30pm

Qualifications:

·         A minimum of two years of relevant work experience, lived experience, or both.  A Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology or related human services field a plus.      

·         Minimum of one year of experience in a case management role.

·         Understanding of the issues of substance abuse, mental health, trauma, abuse and adolescent development including brain development.

·         Experience, ability and commitment to working with sexual minority and culturally diverse staff, participants and community.

·         Must have access to an automobile, a valid driver’s license, and active auto insurance on that vehicle.

·         Must be willing to be CPR trained and certified

 

What You'll Do:

  • Provide onsite support at Unity House and New Doors throughout the week for “office hours” which will include case management and support around direct needs, skill building, emotional support, conflict resolution, and transition planning.
  • Oversee day to day on-site operations of the shared housing program sites. Ensure processing and management of maintenance requests for shared housing sites. In partnership with youth, provides basic upkeep tasks and cleaning, including room turnover.
  • Coordinate all shared housing site community meetings and collaborate with Assistant Director of Housing to develop intentional resolution of program rule violations.
  • Conduct Initial Assessments to identify the client’s presenting issues and determine client’s strengths and needs with attention to immediate service provision.
  • Develop and maintain professional and trusting relationships with youth that encourage positive social and emotional development. Create and nurture Protective Factors (caring relationships, high expectations, and relevant and meaningful participation) in each youth’s environment, including within the multi-agency team setting.
  • Manage crisis by ability to recognize and provide appropriate intervention as needed. Address youth conflict directly and respectfully while avoiding power struggles. Teach and model effective problem solving and conflict negotiation.
  • Exhibit flexibility by providing services in non-traditional settings (outside of traditional ‘office’ setting, i.e. the community, cafes, schools, parks, etc.)
  • Facilitate youth engagement and self-determination as individuals and within services/resources including resource brokerage, referral, case coordination and advocacy. Make referrals based on appropriate match between youth’s needs and available resources. Provide overall coordination of services to each client. Advocate with referral agencies as needed and when appropriate to facilitate referral for identification of client needs.
  • Engage community members in support roles and network various systems/options for youth.
