Position Overview
OWC is seeking an experienced Senior Regulatory Compliance Engineer to lead and manage global regulatory compliance and certification activities across OWC’s product portfolio. This role will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a proactive, scalable worldwide regulatory strategy that supports OWC products throughout the complete product lifecycle—from early product development and certification planning through mass production and ongoing post-market compliance.
The Senior Regulatory Compliance Engineer will work closely with Product Management, Engineering, Operations, Quality, Program Management, suppliers, and external certification laboratories to ensure OWC products meet applicable regulatory requirements in all markets in which they are sold.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead OWC’s worldwide regulatory strategy and product certifications across North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, Asia-Pacific, and other global markets.
- Determine applicable regulatory and certification requirements for new products based on product type, technology, and intended markets.
- Manage global product certifications and compliance requirements, including FCC, IC/ISED, CE, UKCA, CB Scheme, RoHS, REACH, WEEE, California Proposition 65, and other regional or country-specific requirements.
- Identify, interpret, and manage environmental and sustainability standards, including restricted substances, recycling, energy efficiency, material disclosure, and reporting obligations.
- Coordinate with Legal, Finance, Product Management, and Engineering to identify technologies subject to third-party patents, licensing obligations, or royalty requirements.
- Embed regulatory requirements, risks, timelines, costs, and certification activities into product development and launch plans.
- Manage regulatory testing, submissions, approvals, renewals, and relationships with laboratories, certification agencies, consultants, and other regulatory partners.
- Maintain regulatory documentation, technical files, declarations, certificates, test reports, and supporting compliance records.
- Ensure product labels, packaging, documentation, and regulatory markings comply with applicable market requirements.
- Oversee factory, supplier, and manufacturing-partner compliance, including production controls, documentation, site assessments, audit readiness, corrective actions, and continued conformity during mass production.
- Support compliance activities related to engineering changes, component changes, supplier changes, and product revisions.
- Manage ongoing and post-market regulatory requirements, including certification renewals, audits, documentation updates, and compliance inquiries.
- Monitor emerging worldwide regulatory requirements, assess business impacts, communicate changes, and establish plans before new requirements take effect.
- Establish standardized regulatory processes, documentation, tracking, and reporting across OWC.
- Provide regulatory guidance and leadership to internal teams, suppliers, and external partners.
- Support regulatory audits and inquiries from certification bodies or governmental/regulatory authorities.
- Identify opportunities to improve certification timelines, reduce regulatory risk, and improve the efficiency and predictability of OWC’s worldwide certification process.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Regulatory Compliance, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- 8–12+ years of experience in regulatory compliance, product certification, or a related function within the consumer electronics, computer hardware, storage, connectivity, or technology industry.
- Strong experience managing worldwide product certifications and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory requirements applicable to electronic hardware products, including FCC, CE, UKCA, CB Scheme, RoHS, REACH, WEEE, and other international requirements.
- Experience working with certification laboratories, regulatory agencies, manufacturing partners, and suppliers.
- Experience supporting hardware products through development, validation, certification, mass production, and post-market activities.
- Strong understanding of technical documentation, regulatory testing, certification processes, and product labeling requirements.
- Experience working with global and Asia-based engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple products, certifications, and regulatory activities simultaneously.
- Ability to work effectively across Product Management, Engineering, Quality, Operations, Procurement, Program Management, and external organizations.
- Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate professionally in English is required.
