Parallax Space, Inc.

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Manager

Parallax Space is building a new model for the space industry, combining engineering, scalable manufacturing, and integrated mission solutions to deliver critical space capabilities at speed and scale. Our mission is to transform how satellites and space hardware are developed, manufactured, and delivered.

Position Summary

Parallax Space seeks a commercially minded, hands-on FP&A Manager to serve as a key analytical partner to the CFO. This role will own recurring management reporting, budgeting, rolling forecasts, cash and liquidity planning, revenue and backlog analytics, and program-level financial performance. The successful candidate will connect accounting, CRM, manufacturing, and program data into decision-ready reporting for executive leadership and the Board while helping establish scalable, audit-ready financial processes as the company grows and prepares for the demands of being publicly traded.

Core Responsibilities

CFO, Executive & Board Financial Reporting

  • Own and deliver a monthly management reporting package and quarterly financial scorecard covering revenue, gross margin, EBITDA, cash balance, operating cash flow/burn, backlog, bookings, and book-to-bill.
  • Deliver consolidated and business-line P&L analysis: monthly, quarterly and year-to-date actuals versus budget, prior periods and current forecast; explain material volume, timing, mix and cost variances.
  • Prepare concise Board-ready narratives identifying performance drivers, key financial risks, forecast changes, capital needs and decisions requiring Board attention.
  • Maintain consistent KPI definitions, reconciliations to the general ledger and CRM, reporting calendars, and management dashboards.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Modeling

  • Lead the annual operating budget and maintain an integrated rolling forecast for revenue, gross margin, EBITDA, balance sheet and cash flow.
  • Show original approved budget versus current full-year forecast, including quantified changes in assumptions, timing, costs and profitability.
  • Develop scenario and sensitivity analyses for production ramp, hiring, customer awards, program delays, pricing, gross margin and funding requirements.
  • Lead the planning cadence with department and program leaders to validate forecasts, spending commitments, staffing plans and financial assumptions.

Revenue, Bookings & Backlog

  • Track bookings, funded and unfunded backlog where applicable, revenue recognized, remaining performance obligations as appropriate, book-to-bill, and expected backlog-to-revenue conversion by major business line, customer and program.
  • Maintain a revenue bridge from opening backlog and new bookings through recognized revenue to ending backlog; reconcile CRM opportunity/contract data with finance records.
  • Build forecast views of expected contract awards, production and delivery milestones, billing schedules and revenue recognition timing; clearly distinguish pipeline from contracted backlog.
  • Highlight concentration, schedule, cancellation, collection and execution risks affecting revenue forecasts.

Program Economics, Cost Accounting & Margin Management

  • Maintain program financial scorecards showing total contract value, approved budget, revenue recognized to date, costs incurred, open commitments, forecast cost to complete (ETC), estimate at completion (EAC) and expected gross margin.
  • Partner with program management, engineering and manufacturing to identify cost overruns, schedule changes, labor/material variances and changes to forecast profitability.
  • Support job costing, direct/indirect cost allocations, inventory, WIP and COGS analysis in collaboration with the accounting team.
  • Support milestone billing and contract cash-flow forecasts, including the implications of customer payment terms and supplier commitments.

Cash, Liquidity & Capital Allocation

  • Prepare and maintain short-term cash forecasts and a rolling 12–18 month liquidity outlook, including working capital, cash burn, runway and expected capital requirements.
  • Analyze receivables, payables, inventory, deposits, capital expenditures and customer milestone receipts as drivers of cash conversion.
  • Track material capex, financing activity, M&A-related commitments and other significant cash obligations; support CFO evaluation of capital allocation decisions.
  • Flag liquidity gaps, downside scenarios and financing dependencies early with proposed mitigation options.

Systems, Controls & Cross-Functional Support

  • Develop and automate dashboards and reporting from ERP/MRP, accounting, procurement, CRM and program systems; improve data definitions and source-to-report traceability.
  • Support monthly close with analytical review, accrual inputs and reconciliations, working with accounting rather than serving as the primary transaction processor.
  • Monitor purchase commitments and procurement variances; coordinate with procurement staff on PO and vendor data without owning routine PO issuance, invoice matching or vendor onboarding.
  • Document financial reporting procedures, strengthen controls and maintain audit-support schedules appropriate for a growing aerospace company and prospective public-company reporting.
  • Lead ad hoc CFO analysis, due diligence, acquisition integration and financial planning for strategic initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics or related field; CPA, CFA or MBA is a plus.
  • Approximately 6–10 years of progressive FP&A, financial modeling, management reporting or program finance experience; exceptional candidates with different tenure considered.
  • Advanced Excel and three-statement modeling skills; demonstrated ability to produce executive-ready financial packages and explain variances.
  • Experience with budgeting, rolling forecasts, cash flow, gross margin and financial KPI design.
  • Ability to reconcile data across accounting, ERP and CRM systems and communicate effectively with non-finance leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage the FP&A calendar, drive cross-functional accountability, challenge assumptions constructively, and present recommendations directly to the CFO and senior leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Aerospace, defense, satellite manufacturing, advanced manufacturing or government-contract/program finance experience.
  • Knowledge of EAC/ETC, job costing, WIP, inventory and long-duration contract economics; familiarity with ASC 606 and FAR/DFARS is advantageous.
  • Experience with NetSuite, Dynamics, SAP, Acumatica or similar ERP/MRP platforms; Power BI, SQL or reporting automation.
  • Experience supporting Board materials, financing, M&A or pre-IPO/public-company readiness.

Initial Priorities & Success Measures

  • First 90 days: establish baseline monthly financial reporting and KPI definitions; deliver an initial revenue/bookings/backlog bridge, program margin tracker and 13-week cash forecast.
  • First 6 months: independently own monthly actual-versus-budget analysis and a rolling full-year forecast; launch quarterly CFO/Board scorecard and integrated liquidity outlook.
  • First 12 months: deliver reliable, reconciled and increasingly automated reporting across revenue, backlog, program EAC/margin and cash; improve forecast accuracy and decision visibility.
