Summary/Objective:

Reporting to the Logistics Manager, the Driver will be directly responsible for the transportation of materials to assigned locations. They are responsible for ensuring safe and efficient delivery of materials while adhering to all applicable regulations and company policies.

 

Essential Duties (other duties may be assigned):   

  • Operate commercial motor vehicles, such as tractor-trailers, flatbeds, or other specialized vehicles, to transport goods and materials.
  • Load and unload cargo, ensuring proper handling and securing goods to prevent damage during transit.
  • Verify and complete all required documentation, such as bills of lading, delivery receipts, and other transportation-related records.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of commercial motor vehicles, checking for safety compliance and proper maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, Hours of Service (HOS) rules, and other applicable laws.
  • Communicate and collaborate with dispatchers, customers, and other team members to ensure effective communication and coordination of transportation activities.
  • Train and mentor new CDL drivers, providing on-the-job training and guidance on safe driving practices, regulations, and company policies.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including the proper care and maintenance of commercial motor vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the scope of the position.

Education/Experience:  

Required:

  • Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required. Additional endorsements may be required or preferred depending on operational needs.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of CDL Flatbed driving experience (48’-53’ preferred), with a clean driving record.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing commercial motor vehicle operations.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Knowledge of:

  • DOT, TXDOT, and DPS Regulations related to operating assigned vehicles, and maintenance of CDL.

  • Navigate geographical instructions.
  • Operate and perform basic maintenance on commercial motor vehicles and equipment.
  • Lift heavy objects and perform physical tasks associated with loading and unloading cargo.

 

Certificates and Licenses: OSHA-10 Certification.

 

Work Environment:

This position operates in a trucking and fabrication/production environment. Employees will routinely work in a non-climate-controlled shop and in commercial vehicles, with regular exposure to dust, noise, and varying temperatures. The noise level may range from moderate (while operating a vehicle) to high in shop environments, and the use of hearing protection and adherence to all company Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) policies is required. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee typically encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to speak and listen.  

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. regularly and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, and reaching.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time while operating a vehicle.
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions (heat, cold, rain) and around loud equipment.
  • Ability to safely work around moving machinery, overhead cranes, and industrial equipment.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe footwear.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include exposure to noise, dust, vibration, temperature changes, and fumes.
  • Ability to maintain visual acuity and depth perception necessary for safe equipment operation, with or without reasonable accommodations.  Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position.  Hours of work may change based upon the needs of the business.
