Architectural Associate - Conservation

Peter Pennoyer Architects, D.P.C. is a 50-person firm of architects, conservators, interior designers, and related professionals based in Manhattan and with a South Florida office in Miami. Founded in 1990, PPA is recognized as a leader in new construction, renovation, and historic preservation for residential, commercial, and institutional commissions across the United States and abroad. 

Our Conservation Division is seeking an Architectural Associate to join our team. Working on architecturally significant and landmarked buildings, this role will support the team in a range of restoration and preservation projects in collaboration with PPA's Architectural Division. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in architectural conservation and documentation and be capable of producing high-quality results while working collaboratively within a project team.


Role Description

·         Conduct field surveys and existing conditions assessments

·         Prepare measured drawings using applicable drafting software

·         Assist in the preparation of specifications and product research

·         Perform archival research and documentation

·         Participate in Construction Administration activities, including site visits, submittal reviews, and sample reviews

·         Coordinate with Architectural Division on renovation, new construction, and adaptive-use projects

·         Self-check work for completeness, accuracy, and quality

 

Qualifications

·         Master's degree in Architectural Conservation, Historic Preservation, or a related field preferred (Bachelor's degree considered) or Professional degree in Architecture (M.Arch or B.Arch) with conservation coursework, concentration, or relevant restoration/conservation experience

·         Minimum 2 years of experience in an architectural firm setting or comparable contracting experience

·         Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office

·         Experience with building condition assessment, field documentation, and measured drawing/ detail production

·         Working understanding of building material properties, traditional construction assemblies, failure modes, and intervention/remedial repair options

·         Proactive approach to problem solving & teamwork in a collegial work environment

·         Comfortable working at elevated locations, including scaffolding, ladders, and tall structures

·         Proactive approach to problem-solving and teamwork in a collaborative studio environment

·         Willingness to travel occasionally

·        Precise and personable verbal and written communication skills

·         Must be able to commute to NYC office five days per week

Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including the candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, the specific responsibilities and scope of the role, as well as market conditions and business needs at the time an offer is extended.
