Job Summary

The Business Systems Analyst's (BSA) primary responsibility is to translate business and system needs into requirements for cross-functional development teams in an Agile environment. They will be responsible for identifying/gathering, analyzing, documenting, validating, and prioritizing requirements while acting as a liaison between stakeholders and development teams. They understand the vision of the product to be developed, document ideas into concrete requirements, and act as a point of contact for any clarification regarding deliverables. This role requires strong technical acumen to work effectively with APIs, event-driven architectures, authentication systems, and complex integrations across multiple systems.


Responsibilities

  • Understand and help project managers and/or product/program owners create business cases by ensuring all high-level requirements are listed in the project scope.
  • Gather, validate, analyze, document, and prioritize requirements from key stakeholders and SMEs using requirement elicitation techniques like workshops, focus groups, and user story mapping.
  • Document requirements by creating detailed user stories, technical requirements, and acceptance criteria, breaking them down into functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Maintain and update documentation at regular intervals throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Good understanding of APIs, event-driven architectures, authentication/authorization systems (SSO, MFA), feature flagging, and configuration management.
  • Translate technical architecture decisions into clear, actionable user stories for development teams.
  • Conduct impact analysis for changes across integrated systems and identify dependencies.
  • Liaise between assigned business units and IT teams to align demands and critical priorities.
  • Act as intermediary between customers/stakeholders and development teams, ensuring clear communication of requirements.
  • Recommend workarounds, value additions, and remove solution bottlenecks for stakeholders.
  • Facilitate requirement workshops and refinement sessions with cross-functional teams.
  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies and collaborate with Product Owners to maintain and prioritize the product backlog.
  • Break down epics into user stories sized appropriately for sprint execution.
  • Support QA teams with clear acceptance criteria and test scenario validation.


Qualifications

  • Experience: 4-6 years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Good understanding of APIs, event-driven architectures, authentication/authorization systems (SSO, MFA), feature flagging, and configuration management.
    • Knowledge of databases, data models, and IT infrastructures.
  • Agile Expertise: Demonstrated experience working in Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe).
  • System Development: Knowledge of system development life cycle, data transformations, and testing strategies.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and practical problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Documentation: Adept at business process documentation, creating user stories, and presenting findings.
  • Self-Management: Self-motivated and directed.
  • Customer Focus: Strong customer service orientation.


Preferred Qualification

  • Certifications: CCBA® or Agile certifications such as CSPO (Certified Scrum Product Owner), , SAFe POPM, or equivalent industry-recognized BA/Agile certifications are preferred.
  • Industry Experience: Experience in financial services, insurance, or regulated industries.
  • Technical Background: Familiarity with modern DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation strategies.
  • Integration Experience: Hands-on experience documenting complex system integrations and data flows.
  • Component Libraries: Understanding of design systems and reusable component architecture.
  • Configuration-Driven Solutions: Experience with configuration-driven solutions and system flexibility.
  • Business Intelligence: Experience with Business Intelligence tools and reporting platforms (Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or similar).
  • Tools: Experience with tools like JIRA, Confluence, Postman, Lucid, Figma, Miro, or similar collaboration platforms.
  • Change Management: Strong change leadership experience within growing or transforming organizations.


Supervisory Responsibility 
This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 


Work Environment 
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

This is largely a sedentary role; however, building access is limited to two sets of stairs and may require lifting or moving objects up to 30 lbs. The employee is frequently required to sit for long periods of time.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work 
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
