Senior Software Engineer - Frontend/Fullstack, UI Platform

About Rippling

Rippling gives businesses one place to run HR, IT, and Finance. It brings together all of the workforce systems that are normally scattered across a company, like payroll, expenses, benefits, and computers. For the first time ever, you can manage and automate every part of the employee lifecycle in a single system.

Take onboarding, for example. With Rippling, you can hire a new employee anywhere in the world and set up their payroll, corporate card, computer, benefits, and even third-party apps like Slack and Microsoft 365 - all within 90 seconds.

Based in San Francisco, CA, Rippling has raised $1.85B+  from the world’s top investors - including Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund, Sequoia, Greenoaks, Bedrock, GIC, Elad Gil and Goldman Sachs and was named one of America's best startup employers by Forbes.

About the UI Platform Team

The UI Platform team is a foundational platform team shaping how products are designed, built, and delivered at Rippling.

As Rippling continues to scale across products and engineering teams, excellence cannot be left to individual implementation alone. UI Platform builds the shared systems, design patterns, application architecture, performance guardrails, and delivery foundations that help teams ship high-quality product experiences with speed, reliability, and consistency.

The team works across core areas such as:

  • Application Framework / SDUI – enabling product teams to build configurable, scalable, and consistent product experiences.
  • Design System – powering reusable primitives, patterns, and guardrails across Rippling products.
  • Frontend Infrastructure – evolving Rippling’s web architecture for scale, performance, and independent product delivery.
  • Performance and Product Experience – raising the quality bar across product surfaces.
  • AI-native Developer Experience – building infrastructure that helps engineers and AI agents write, validate, and ship production-quality code more reliably.

This team partners closely with 40+ product teams across Rippling and plays a central role in improving developer velocity, product consistency, and customer experience at scale.

About the Role

  • We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer – Frontend-Fullstack to join Rippling’s UI Platform team.
  • This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who is strong in frontend engineering, comfortable working across the stack, and excited about building platform systems that are used by many product teams.
  • In this role, you will work on Rippling’s Application Framework / Server Driven UI platform, helping product teams build and integrate scalable, configuration-driven user experiences. You will partner with engineers, designers, product managers, and platform stakeholders across the company to solve high-leverage problems that improve how Rippling products are built and shipped.
  • The ideal candidate has strong frontend fundamentals, practical backend exposure, good product intuition, and the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams. This role is approximately 80% frontend and 20% backend, with a strong emphasis on building reusable frameworks, scalable UI architecture, and developer-facing platform capabilities.
  • You should be comfortable owning projects end-to-end, driving technical clarity, communicating well with partner teams, and operating in a fast-moving environment where platform decisions can impact dozens of product surfaces.

What You Will Do

  • Build and evolve Rippling’s Application Framework / SDUI platform, enabling product teams to create configurable, consistent, and scalable user experiences.
  • Partner with 40+ product teams to support adoption, integration, and evolution of UI Platform capabilities.
  • Design and implement reusable frontend platform primitives, patterns, abstractions, and workflows that improve engineering velocity across Rippling.
  • Work closely with Design, Product, and Engineering teams to translate platform requirements into high-quality technical solutions.
  • Contribute to frontend architecture, performance improvements, developer tooling, and platform reliability.
  • Build backend components where needed to support configuration-driven UI, schema-based rendering, platform APIs, and internal tooling.
  • Help improve the developer experience for product engineers building on top of Rippling’s UI Platform.
  • Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, debugging, testing, rollout planning, and production support.
  • Use AI tools thoughtfully to improve development velocity, code quality, validation, and engineering workflows.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to drive larger projects, influence technical direction, and raise the quality bar across the team.
  • Contribute to platform systems such as design systems, shared UI infrastructure, performance guardrails, and AI-assisted development workflows.

Qualifications

  • 6–9 years of professional software engineering experience, preferably with strong frontend/platform/product engineering exposure.
  • Strong hands-on experience building complex frontend applications using modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks such as React.
  • Solid understanding of frontend architecture, component design, state management, performance, accessibility, testing, and maintainability.
  • Experience building reusable UI systems, internal platforms, frontend infrastructure, or developer-facing frameworks.
  • Comfortable working fullstack, with backend exposure in areas such as APIs, services, data modeling, schemas, configuration systems, or platform integrations.
  • Ability to independently own well-defined to moderately ambiguous projects from design through execution, launch, and iteration.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, especially when working with multiple product teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Good product and design sensibility; able to balance platform consistency with product flexibility.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities and high ownership.
  • Practical exposure to AI tools, AI-assisted development, agentic workflows, orchestration, or automation is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with design systems, component libraries, SDUI, schema-driven UI, or configuration-driven platforms is a strong plus.

Nice to Have

  • Experience building or contributing to design systems or shared frontend platforms.
  • Experience with server-driven UI / schema-driven UI / configuration-driven rendering.
  • Exposure to frontend monorepos, micro-frontends, module federation, or large-scale web architecture.
  • Experience building internal developer tools, platform APIs, or productivity infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with AI coding tools, AI agent workflows, prompt orchestration, automated validation, or code-generation systems.
  • Experience working in a platform team that supports multiple product teams.

What Makes This Role Exciting

  • You will build systems that directly impact how 40+ product teams build and ship at Rippling.
  • You will work on high-leverage platform problems across frontend architecture, SDUI, design systems, performance, and developer experience.
  • You will help shape the future of AI-assisted development inside a large production web application.
  • You will work on foundational systems where improvements benefit every product team, not just one feature area.
  • You will get strong ownership, high visibility, and the opportunity to grow toward Staff-level platform scope over time.
