About the Role

The Earthworks Foreman is responsible for successfully delivering assigned projects on time and on budget while leading a crew, managing production, materials, and safety. This role requires strong hands-on experience as a pipelayer, equipment operator, and gradesperson, along with proven leadership and organizational skills.

You’ll work closely with field and project leadership to coordinate labour, workflow, scheduling, and logistics — ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and to Horizon’s high standards.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, coach, and supervise crews to ensure safe, productive, and high-quality work
  • Operate a variety of equipment including skid steers, excavators, loaders, backhoes, and dozers
  • Perform detailed excavating, grading, and light civil installations
  • Set elevations and fine grades using laser levels
  • Manage materials, site logistics, workflow, and deliveries
  • Schedule jobs, forecast labour hours, and track productivity
  • Maintain strong communication with Field Managers, subcontractors, and site superintendents
  • Conduct regular safety meetings, inspections, toolbox talks, and documentation
  • Ensure compliance with all safety requirements and safe work practices
  • Train, mentor, and develop crew members while supporting a positive team culture
  • Submit accurate time records for payroll processing
  • Maintain company vehicles and equipment in safe working order
  • Participate in company events and ongoing training opportunities

 

What You Bring

Experience & Certifications

  • 5,000+ hours of skid steer and excavator operation
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract
  • First Aid Certification
  • Equipment operator certifications (asset)
  • Trades education (asset)
  • Heavy Trailer Endorsement (asset)

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Technically proficient using iPad/iPhone and jobsite software
  • Ability to read blueprints and construction drawings
  • High standards for safety, quality, and customer service
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability
  • Team-focused mindset with the ability to lead by example

Compensation & Benefits

  • $80,000 – $104,000 annually, based on experience
  • 15 days vacation + 5 personal days annually
