Position Overview:

This role is a key part of the operational team and participates in day-to-day accounting activities, financial reporting, and payroll processing in support of Canadian and US operations. The right candidate can meet deadlines while multi-tasking in a dynamic work environment.. This role works closely with several key business colleagues’ including the Controller, HR, and leadership team. This is a terrific opportunity for someone who wants to learn about state-of-the-art technologies while broadening their breadth of accounting and finance experience.

 

Responsibilities

Reporting to the President, this position includes the following responsibilities (but are not limited to:)

 

Payroll Processing:

·         Process full-cycle semi-monthly payroll across multiple provinces and states for salaried and hourly employees, ensuring accuracy and on-time payment.

·         Manage payroll side changes related to compensation updates, new hires, terminations, and Records of Employment.

·         Audit timecards for completeness and manager approvals prior to each payroll close.

·         Monitor and audit overtime calculations, labour costs and provide insights to management as needed.

·         Ensure benefits premiums and other deductions are correct and up to date.

·         Calculate and process off cycle runs including termination payments and pay corrections in compliance with the applicable provincial Employment Standards Act or US state regulations.

·         Process payroll reimbursements and staff expenses.

·         Recommend and implement efficiencies in the Accounting workflows to ensure productivity is maximized.

·         Audit and reconcile payroll liability accounts to the general ledger for each pay period and produce payroll journal entries and variance reports for month-end close.

·         Ensure remittances, workers compensation premiums and payroll taxes are processed to meet deadlines.

·         Lead the annual T4 preparation process, reconciling all applicable boxes against payroll registers and benefit summaries prior to filing.

 

Accounting Duties

·         Function as a support for accounts receivable functions, including assisting with invoice preparations, posting receipts, and monitoring outstanding balances to ensure timely collections.

·         Process invoices, ensure proper coding, and prepare vendor payments.

·         Ensure all cash receipts have been matched and posted.

·         Collaborate with the Controller to complete month-end close activities, including preparing journal entries, accruals, and supporting documentation as needed.

·         Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and intercompany balances, promptly investigating and resolving discrepancies.

·         Contribute to budget tracking and variance analysis by providing information and assisting department managers as required.

·         Provide data for month-end financial analysis, budgeting, and cash flow forecasting.

·         Provide ad hoc reporting support as required.

 Job requirements:

·         Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.

·         5+ years of combined experience in payroll and accounting.

·         Pursuing or completion of CPA designation is preferred.

·         Advanced MS Excel capabilities, Power BI for reporting and analysis and comfortable working with a variety of accounting systems and software.

·         Experience with advanced payrolls/HRIS software systems like ADP, Ceridian, or Rippling is required.

·         PCP designation is a preferred asset.

·         This role requires strong written and verbal English communication skills to effectively collaborate with clients, vendors, and team members.

·         A proven ability to identify issues and make recommendations to course correct.

·         Able to manage competing deadlines in a demanding environment.

·         Quick to learn new systems and processes, with an openness to feedback and direct communication.

·         Experience with multi-provincial and/or U.S. payroll is preferred.

·         Proven experience with ways to automate processes that benefit the business, employees, save time and money.

·         A keen ability for reporting and analyzing information.

·         Ability to work evening and weekend shifts on occasion.

 

Job Classification

Location:

Mills Rd, North Saanich. This role may be eligible for hybrid work according to the Remote Work/ Work from Home policy.

 

Job type:
Full-time 40 hours per week

Paid sick days, vacation days, wellness allowance, tuition reimbursement, and benefits. Participation in TRSI’s EOT after one year of full-time employment.

Wage:  $65,000 to $78,000 per year. This position is eligible for overtime.
