About the role
TrueComp is a growth-stage govtech SaaS company expanding its product organization across our workforce analytics suite, including TrueComp Intelligence and Labor Costing. The Product Owner II is a mid-level, hands-on product role that works across the full product suite, partnering with onshore and India-based engineering teams and reporting directly to the Chief Product Officer.
This is an AI-forward role. TrueComp uses Claude and Claude Design throughout the product lifecycle, and the Product Owner II will take a product vision from concept to delivery: building AI-assisted prototypes and UI/UX designs, writing PRDs, creating epics and user stories, and managing backlogs and agile teams through release. We are looking for someone who sees AI as a core part of how product work gets done, and who pairs that fluency with strong product judgment and disciplined agile execution.
What you'll do
Discovery, Prototyping, and Design
- Translate product vision and customer needs into interactive prototypes and UI/UX concepts using Claude Design, and use them to validate direction with customers and stakeholders before engineering work begins
- Author clear, complete PRDs, using Claude to accelerate drafting, analysis, and edge-case discovery while owning the quality and accuracy of the result
- Engage directly with government customers and internal stakeholders (Customer Success, Sales, and Services) to gather requirements, test solutions, and keep the voice of the customer central to product decisions
Backlog and Delivery
- Break PRDs into epics and user stories with clear, testable acceptance criteria, and maintain prioritized, well-refined backlogs in Jira across the products you support
- Serve as the day-to-day product decision-maker for your teams: answer questions quickly, clarify scope, and accept or reject work against acceptance criteria and the Definition of Done
- Facilitate sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives, and manage daily stand-ups and asynchronous communication in partnership with engineering leadership
- Coordinate user acceptance testing, release readiness, and release communications with Engineering, QA, Support, and Customer Success
Planning and Communication
- Track initiative status and cross-functional work in Asana, and keep roadmap items, ideas, and priorities current in Aha!
- Communicate sprint priorities, release goals, and roadmap commitments clearly to stakeholders across the organization
- Define success metrics for the features you deliver, review product usage data after release, and use the results to refine priorities
- Contribute to the broader product vision, strategy, and roadmap in coordination with the Chief Product Officer and Product Management
AI-Enabled Ways of Working
- Build and share repeatable AI workflows (prompts, templates, and reusable patterns) that make the product team faster and more consistent
- Review AI-generated work for accuracy, accessibility, and security, and protect customer and agency data when using AI tools
- Work effectively with engineering teams in India, including regular overlap hours, clear written requirements, and proactive communication across time zones
Qualifications
- Three to five years of experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or comparable role in an agile software development environment, with a record of independently owning a backlog and delivering outcomes
- Demonstrated, hands-on use of AI tools such as Claude across the product lifecycle, including prototyping, design, PRD authoring, and user story creation. Candidates should be prepared to walk through specific examples and results during the interview process
- Experience taking an idea from concept through PRD to a refined, sprint-ready backlog
- Proficiency with Jira for story writing and backlog management, and experience with comparable roadmap and project management tools (Aha! and Asana preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to decompose ambiguous business problems into clearly scoped, deliverable increments of work
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex requirements to technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience collaborating with engineering teams across the full software development lifecycle, and flexibility to work with offshore teams in India, including meetings outside standard U.S. business hours
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with offshore development teams, ideally collocated teams based in a single location such as India
- Government technology experience, including familiarity with public sector customers
- Experience in B2B SaaS, particularly at a high-growth organization
- Domain experience in human resources technology, compensation, workforce planning, budgeting, or data and analytics products
- Working knowledge of UX principles and design systems, and experience with product analytics tools such as Pendo
Tools and Technology
- AI: Claude and Claude Design for AI-assisted discovery, prototyping, UI/UX design, PRDs, and user stories
- Product and project management: Aha! for product management and roadmaps; Jira for backlog and story management; Asana for project management
