Job Overview
We are seeking a Quality Engineer to support the Supply Chain team in ensuring that all components and services supplied to Turntide consistently meet defined quality standards. The role encompasses supplier selection and approval, ongoing performance monitoring, and the inspection and verification of incoming goods to assure compliance with specifications and requirements.
The role is based at our site in Gateshead and reports into the Quality Manager.
Key Responsibilities
· Complying with all relevant HSE legislation and site QHSE policies and procedures
· Comply with all relevant HSE legislation and site QHSE policies, ensuring safe and compliant working practices at all times
· Support supplier selection by evaluating capability, risk, and compliance, including submission and review of supplier questionnaires and technical assessments
· Conduct supplier audits (on-site and remote) to assess capability and support supplier approval decisions
· Lead supplier approval activities, ensuring alignment with Turntide quality, technical, and regulatory requirements
· Manage supplier qualification processes, including APQP activities and PPAP review/approval to validate manufacturing readiness
· Monitor and manage supplier performance using KPIs and scorecards, driving supplier development and continuous improvement initiatives
· Analyse supplier quality data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities across the supply chain
· Lead supplier audits to applicable standards (e.g. ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 14001, ISO 45001) and ensure ongoing compliance throughout the supply chain
· Coordinate Goods In inspection activities, ensuring robust verification of incoming components against specifications and effective control of non-conforming material
· Lead supplier nonconformance management, including root cause analysis (e.g. 8D) and verification of corrective actions
· Provide technical guidance and leadership on supplier-related product quality issues within manufacturing and supply chain processes
· Liaise effectively with suppliers, customers, and cross-functional teams to ensure timely resolution of quality issues and alignment of expectations
· Create and maintain quality documentation, including work instructions, quality alerts, and control plans, supporting operational excellence
· Maintain and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Company Management System
· Prepare and present supplier quality performance reports to senior management and key stakeholders
· Drive continuous improvement across the supply chain using best practice methodologies (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma)
The Requirements
We’re looking for candidates with the following experience and skills:
· Proven experience in Supplier Quality or Quality Engineering within a regulated manufacturing environment (e.g. automotive, aerospace, rail)
· Strong experience in supplier selection, approval, and development, including supplier audits, APQP, and PPAP
· Demonstrated ability to manage supplier performance using KPIs/scorecards and drive continuous improvement
· Experience resolving supplier quality issues using structured problem-solving methods (e.g. 8D, root cause analysis)
· Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949, including audit experience
· Proficiency in Automotive core quality tools (e.g. FMEA, Control Plans, SPC)
· Good understanding of manufacturing processes, engineering drawings, and incoming (Goods In) inspection requirements
· Strong communication skills with the ability to influence suppliers and work cross-functionally
Bonus Points
It would also be great (but not essential) if in addition to the above you also had:
· Experience with additional standards such as ISO 14001 or ISO 45001
· Experience using Oracle Netsuite or similar ERP system.
· Lean Six Sigma experience.
· Professional membership (e.g. CQI).
Qualifications
· A HNC or equivalent in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or related technical discipline.
· Lead Auditor qualification in ISO 9001:2015 or IATF 16949:2016
· Formal training in Automotive core tools (e.g. APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA)
