About the Role

We are hiring experienced HDD Locators with foreman skills to lead and support directional drilling crews on utility installation projects using DCI Falcon locating systems. This position combines high-level locating expertise with on-site crew leadership and decision-making responsibilities.

Travel is required. Candidates must be flexible with overnight stays and project-based work away from the home base.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the drilling crew on-site while providing accurate real-time locating using DCI Falcon equipment.
  • Perform daily inspection, calibration, and verification of the DCI Falcon locating system.
  • Direct and coordinate crew activities to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Maintain continuous communication with the drill operator to guide precise steering and protect existing utilities.
  • Oversee compliance with 811/One-Call processes, verified locates, and potholing requirements.
  • Make on-site decisions regarding safety, production, and quality during drilling operations.
  • Document daily activities, equipment status, and field conditions accurately through digital systems.
  • Provide hands-on guidance and training to crew members as needed.
  • Immediately address and report any signal issues, safety concerns, or changing conditions.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as an HDD locator in directional drilling operations.
  • Demonstrated foreman or crew leadership experience in utility construction.
  • Strong proficiency with DCI Falcon locating systems.
  • Solid understanding of utility locating principles, 811 processes, and safe potholing practices.
  • Proven ability to lead a crew while maintaining high technical standards.
  • Strong safety mindset with the discipline to stop work when necessary.
  • Excellent communication and team leadership skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for overnight and multi-day projects.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test (and comply with ongoing drug testing requirements).
  • Professional references will be required and will be checked.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with DCI Falcon F5 / F5+ systems.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).
  • CDL (Class A or B with air brakes).
  • Current OSHA 10 or 30 and First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Experience working under formal daily authorization processes.
  • Ability to operate a vacuum excavator.
