We’re looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our collaborative team in Castro Valley. You’ll use your practical skills to support compassionate patient care, work alongside experienced veterinarians and RVTs, and continue developing in a busy, full-service general practice.

Interested in exotics? Our team shares an enthusiasm for exotic pets—especially reptiles—and we’re seeing growing client demand for their care. Experience is welcome, but it isn’t essential.

Your Role

Working closely with our veterinarians and hospital team, you will:

  • Room patients and obtain thorough medical histories from pet owners
  • Prepare patients and exam rooms for appointments and assist veterinarians during examinations
  • Provide routine patient care, administer vaccines, and safely restrain patients for exams and treatments
  • Collect laboratory samples, perform blood draws, run in-house laboratory diagnostics, and prepare samples for outside laboratories
  • Educate clients on medications, preventive care, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
  • Maintain accurate medical records and ensure timely documentation of patient care
  • Clean, stock, and organize exam rooms and treatment areas to support daily hospital operations
  • Support a variable caseload depending on seasonal demand while maintaining efficient workflow
  • Assist with scheduling, client check-in/check-out, answering phones, and other duties as assigned

The Right Fit:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a veterinary practice, or currently enrolled in a Veterinary Technician program
  • Strong communicator with a warm, client-focused approach
  • Detail-oriented, team-minded, and comfortable working in a fast-paced general practice environment
  • Experience working with exotics is a plus!
