We’re looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our welcoming, collaborative team in California wine country. You’ll support a varied mix of general practice and urgent care cases, develop your practical skills and work alongside colleagues who value compassionate care, gentle handling and clear communication.

What You Can Expect at Alley Cat & Dog:

  • A structured four-day working week, with four 10-hour shifts scheduled Wednesday–Friday, 9 am–8 pm, and Saturday, 8 am–7 pm.
  • A varied clinical environment, supporting general practice, urgent care and emergency triage.
  • Exposure to advanced procedures, including TPLO, BOAS surgery and C-sections, working under the direction of our veterinary team.
  • Tools that advance the standard of care, including dental radiography, ultrasound, echocardiography and comprehensive in-house and reference laboratory diagnostics.

Your Role

Working under the direction of our veterinarians and clinical team, you will:

  • Assist with examinations, treatments and procedures across general practice and urgent care.
  • Prepare patients, equipment and clinical areas for appointments and procedures.
  • Use gentle handling techniques to support patient comfort and safety.
  • Assist with diagnostic testing, sample collection and processing within your training and assigned responsibilities.
  • Support surgical, dental and hospitalized patients as directed.
  • Communicate clearly with colleagues and help reinforce the veterinary team’s instructions to clients.
  • Maintain accurate records and clean, organized examination and treatment areas.
  • Help the team respond to changing priorities during busy clinical days.

  • Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant.
  • Confidence supporting patient care in a busy clinical environment.
  • A commitment to compassionate care and gentle handling.
  • Fear Free certification or a strong interest in low-stress handling techniques.
  • Clear communication and a thoughtful approach to supporting clients.
  • A collaborative mindset, willingness to learn and flexibility when priorities change.
  • Availability for the advertised Wednesday–Saturday schedule.
