Social media is at the heart of Democracy Docket. It is critical to the day-to-day success of our growing impact. From national press outlets to first-time voters, a broad coalition of stakeholders rely on our digital platforms as the go-to source for voting rights, elections and democracy. 


Here’s our approach: Social media isn’t  just a marketing tool. It’s a bridge connecting millions of people to the greatest issues facing our democracy. In other words, social is the main megaphone for all things Democracy Docket and the primary way we disseminate our content.

How You Support The Mission

As the Social Media Producer, you are the visionary behind Democracy Docket’s visual platforms, shaping how millions understand the fight for democratic institutions. You will own translating complex legal topics into accessible and engaging storytelling that informs, inspires and mobilizes voters.


This is a hands-on role for a creative producer who thrives at the intersection of news and content creation. You will balance strategic thinking with practical execution, cutting through the noise of an oversaturated feed without simply chasing trends. By owning your work with precision and curiosity, you will build a loyal audience and define the narrative around the future of our democracy.


This position will report to the Social Content & Strategy Manager and work closely with the Social, Video, Growth and News team. 

How You’ll Contribute

  • Craft Compelling Content: Create timely, sharp, engaging and informative content for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok — from breaking news graphics and explainer carousels, to snackable social-first videos. 
  • Drive Engagement: Foster an informed and active community by monitoring conversations, responding to our audience in real-time and finding opportunities to get our content in front of new audiences.
  • Stay Ahead of Trends: Maintain a deep curiosity about ever changing algorithms and best practices to keep Democracy Docket competitive and relevant.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner closely with our News, Research, Video and Growth teams to ensure all content is on-brand, accurate and aligned with our broader strategic goals.
  • Make Data Informed Decisions: Monitor profile and post performance to inform strategy, improve reach and guide experimentation
  • Manage the Calendar: Own the day-to-day execution of the social content calendar, ensuring a consistent and strategic cadence of posts.

What Experience You Bring

  • 5+ years of relevant experience creating visual content for and managing professional social channels, ideally for a media or news organization.
  • Exceptional social-first storyteller with a portfolio that demonstrates your ability to create clear, concise and compelling content for social audiences. You know how to capture a voice that is authoritative and editorial yet accessible.
  • Technical mastery in graphic design using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or other creative tools; basic video editing skills are encouraged.
  • Impeccable news judgment rooted in a strong understanding of voting rights, elections and democratic institutions.
  • Platform mastery with a deep understanding of visual platform ecosystems and the community engagement strategies that work best on each.
  • Proven experience managing content calendars, production workflows and editorial packaging for large-scale audiences (5–25M+ reach.)
  • Newsroom agility with the ability to multitask, prioritize and maintain high standards of quality even during breaking news and high-volume cycles.
  • Data-informed mindset with a familiarity using third-party analytics platforms like Sprout to refine strategy and improve reach.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, which may include some mornings, evenings and weekends.


Work Environment
This is a full-time role based out of our Washington, D.C. office. While candidates in D.C. are preferred, strong applicants in the NYC area will be considered to work out of our Jersey City office. We offer a hybrid schedule: Mondays and Fridays are remote; Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are in-office.

Salary Range: $84,000-$94,000
