Job Overview

Democracy Docket is seeking a Social & Creative Producer to help shape and elevate our social media presence across platforms. This hands-on creative role will be ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of news, design and digital storytelling.

In this role, you will be the point person for producing social-first graphics and short-form videos that distill complex information into compelling, digestible content. One day you might break down the implications of a court ruling in a 45-second reel, the next, you’re crafting a carousel that brings clarity to a chaotic news cycle. It’s fast-paced work but no one said defending democracy would be easy.

The right candidate is a highly creative, social media savant who understands the nuance of each platform and constantly asks: "What makes this sharable?” You will lead the effort to enhance the creativity and effectiveness of our visual content while forging new strategic partnerships with accounts and creators. In many cases, you will be an arbiter of our first impression and chemist of our brand. You’ll help ensure that impression is sharp, trustworthy and unmistakably ours.

Reporting to the Social Content and Strategy Manager, you will collaborate across the organization to engage key audiences, while working closely with the Social Media Strategist, Senior Graphic Designer and Video Producer.

How You Will Contribute

  • Pitch, storyboard and execute timely visual content (e.g., explainers, carousels, short-form videos, and more) for Instagram and other visual-first platforms.
  • Write and schedule social posts that amplify Democracy Docket’s original reporting and extend the lifecycle of published stories across text-based platforms (e.g., Bluesky, Threads, Facebook, X).
  • Monitor comments and conversations, respond to questions, and identify opportunities for authentic audience engagement.
  • Track social media trends and audience insights to inform content strategy and uncover growth opportunities.
  • Support cross-team digital initiatives as needed, contributing to a nimble, collaborative environment as our organization grows.

What You Will Bring

  • 4-6 years of professional experience producing social media content for a news organization or media outlet.
  • Exceptional writing and visual skills with a proven portfolio of published work
  • A passion for pro-democracy news, politics and online culture.
  • Proficiency in graphic design and video editing tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, CapCut, etc.)
  • Expert command of social mediums; up-to-date on best practices and emerging platform capabilities
  • Witty and thoughtful storytelling with a strong grasp of re-packaging complex stories for a social-first audience.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment under tight deadlines.

Work Environment
This is a full-time role based out of our Washington, D.C. office. We currently operate on a hybrid schedule, with remote work on Mondays and Fridays and in-office days on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

REQUIRED: To apply - please complete the application and attach a resume, cover letter telling us why you’re the right candidate to join the social team at Democracy Docket and how you’d contribute to our larger mission during this pivotal moment in American democracy, and relevant work samples.

Salary Range: $80,000-$88,000
