Job Overview 

Democracy Docket is seeking a a creative and driven Event Specialist to lead our live events and paid sponsorship programs. 


The ideal candidate is passionate about planning engaging, topical and dynamic live events with high-profile guests for our existing audience of over 1 million — while also attracting new readers and viewers to Democracy Docket. They will actively pitch and secure sponsorships, building meaningful partnerships with organizations that share our commitment to voting rights and democracy to support and enhance our events and newsletters.


If you have a track record of event planning, a knack for landing sponsors and a passion for protecting democracy, this could be your perfect fit.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and execute live events from start to finish, including webinar panels, Q&A sessions and live podcast recordings. 
  • Work with Growth, Social Media and News teams on event topics and guests and lead all external outreach and communication with event guests and sponsors.
  • Manage logistics during the event, including mastering the event platform’s technology, troubleshooting when issues arise and implementing proactive solutions.  
  • Research potential sponsorship leads to identify mission-aligned and relevant partnership opportunities for our newsletters and live events.
  • Pitch and securing sponsorships by coordinating meetings, preparing materials and maintaining outreach records.
  • Coordinate with sponsors to ensure proper ad placement and timely execution of deliverables.
  • Monitor, analyze and report on the performance of all events and sponsorship campaigns. Use data-driven insights to optimize future strategies, increase audience attendance and engagement and improve sponsor leads and offerings.

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of event planning and ad or sponsorship sales experience, preferably in a media, communication or political environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in customer relationship management systems (e.g., HubSpot) and virtual event tools (e.g., Zoom).
  • Experience working with sponsors and tracking performance metrics/analytics. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Comfort juggling multiple priorities and last-minute changes, particularly in response to the news cycle.
  • Confidence in public speaking, presenting sponsorship opportunities to potential partners or discussing marketing strategies with stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Passion for democracy, voting and mission-driven media.

Work Environment
This is a full-time role based out of our Jersey City office. We currently operate on a hybrid schedule, with remote work on Mondays and Fridays and in-office days on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Salary Range: $75,001-$85,001
