Job Overview 

Democracy Docket is seeking a Social Media Specialist to play a key role in executing our digital strategy across all platforms, with a focus on community engagement, planned content, and multimedia production. The ideal candidate is a creative and strategic communicator who is passionate about democracy and skilled in audience engagement.


Responsibilities

  • Community Management:
    • Monitor and engage with Democracy Docket’s online audience primarily on Facebook and Instagram, as well as Bluesky, X, LinkedIn, and other platforms as needed.
    • Respond to questions, moderate discussions, and cultivate an engaged and informed community.
    • Identify opportunities for meaningful interactions, partnerships, and user-generated content.
    • Actively monitor social media trends, audience insights, and analytics to refine strategy.
    • Report on audience trends and responses to Social Media Manager and the wider organization.
  • Planned Content & Strategy:
    • Write and schedule compelling, timely, and informative social media content that uplifts/compliments our website content (news, analysis, opinion).
    • Work across the Social Media and Growth team to develop content calendars that align with key legal and political new events.
    • Collaborate with the Graphic Designer to create engaging social media graphics, including promotional content and merchandise features.
    • Work closely with the Growth Team to draft copy for newsletter and member promotion.
  • Multimedia & Video Content:
    • Film and edit short-form video content, including Reels, TikToks, and other social-first video formats that complement social media strategy.
    • Opportunities for on camera work available to present Democracy Docket updates, legal news, and explainer content.
    • Assist in the production and promotion of Democracy Docket’s YouTube videos as needed.
  • Other Duties:
    • Assist with additional digital and social media projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience in social media, digital content creation, or community management. A plus if in a news capacity.
  • Strong writing skills and ability to translate complex legal and political topics into engaging content.
  • Experience with video editing tools (e.g., CapCut, Adobe Premiere, Canva, or similar).
  • Comfortable appearing on camera for short-form video content is a plus.
  • Knowledge of social media analytics and ability to interpret data to improve engagement.
  • Familiarity with politics, voting rights, or legal advocacy is a plus.

Work Environment
This is a full-time role based out of our Washington, D.C. office. We currently operate on a hybrid schedule, with remote work on Mondays and Fridays and in-office days on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Salary Range: $70,000-$75,000
