Litigation Counsel

Position Summary: 

The DNC is hiring a litigation counsel to join the DNC’s in-house litigation team and help protect free and fair elections. This position reports to the DNC’s Litigation Director and will work closely with the DNC’s General Counsel and the DNC’s Civic Engagement and Voter Protection Department. Responsibilities: 

  • Litigate offensive and defensive matters on behalf of the DNC, including all aspects of trial and appellate litigation;
  • Develop strategy and draft ready pleadings to address potential threats to American democracy;
  • Work alongside outside counsel on delegated matters, including review of draft pleadings and answering strategic questions on behalf of the DNC;
  • Identify and evaluate potential matters for party and amicus participation;
  • Manage portions of our legal admin processes, including engagement letters, litigation holds, docket management, and legal bill review; and
  • Other duties as assigned to support the department and the DNC's mission.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school;
  • Admitted to practice and in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar; 
  • At least five years of civil litigation experience in government, nonprofits, or law firms (including clerkships); 
  • Federal clerkships and/or public interest litigation experience preferred;
  • Expertise or experience in voting rights and/or election administration preferred; and
  • A strong interest in and knowledge of Democratic politics and principles preferred.


Travel: The Litigation Counsel position will require travel, which could be up to 25% of the time.


Salary: The starting salary for the Litigation Counsel position is $140,000, on an annualized basis, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, exempt position, that may require work on weekends.  This position will be based at the DNC HQ in Washington, D.C.

The pay range for this role is:

140,000 - 140,000 USD per year (Washington, DC)
