About DESRI
DESRI (formerly D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments) is a market-leading owner and operator of renewable energy projects throughout the United States. We have acquired or developed approximately 13 gigawatts of contracted capacity across a portfolio of over 85 renewable energy projects in 24 states. DESRI is run by a dynamic team with offices located at New York, Denver, Houston and Hyderabad (India).
About the role
In this role, you will work as an embedded member of DESRI’s Preconstruction team, executing delegated tasks assigned, reviewed, and owned by U.S.-based Precon Leads. You will build a deep understanding of how DESRI takes projects from site studies and technical due diligence through EPC procurement and contract execution, and progressively take on a more active role in supporting consultant engagement, RFP management, scheduling, bid evaluation, and contract administration.
What you'll do
- Operate as an embedded member of the Preconstruction team, participating in project calls, email traffic, and internal discussions across assigned Precon Leads’ project portfolios.
- Support consultant proposal solicitation and comparison — reaching out to EORs, geotechnical firms, and other consultants against provided SOWs, tracking responses, and building structured cost, scope, and schedule comparison matrices for Precon Lead review.
- Support RFP preparation and data room setup — compiling and formatting RFP packages, drafting standard RFP sections from established templates, and building out and maintaining data rooms against the RFP checklist.
- Coordinate EPC outreach logistics for RFP preview and release, tracking confirmations, managing distribution lists, and maintaining a log of outreach communications for Precon Lead visibility.
- Maintain and update the living SOW document as project inputs evolve, flagging inconsistencies between iterations and supporting progression from Preliminary SOW through RFP-level SOW to Final Contract SOW.
- Support development and ongoing maintenance of the preconstruction schedule, tracking milestones across site studies, EPC engagement, RFP issuance, and contract execution, and flagging schedule risks and delays for Precon Lead attention.
- Build out bid leveling matrices and comparison frameworks, compile initial proposal-vs-scope alignment reviews, and organize bidder clarification logs and Q&A trackers.
- Maintain version-controlled Basis of Design (BOD) logs across project iterations, flagging equipment selection changes and downstream impacts for Precon Lead awareness.
- Support development of project-specific EPC risk registers, contributing to populating and maintaining the register as familiarity with individual projects and site conditions builds.
- Maintain a master exhibit log for each active contract, tracking current exhibit versions, ownership, and outstanding open items, and surfacing anything stale or blocking progress for Precon Lead attention.
- Receive, organize, and log redlined exhibits, preparing clean comparison documents for Precon Lead review, and support the Contracts Manager in maintaining the baseline exhibit template library.
- Triage contract-related email and correspondence, summarizing outstanding items and action owners for Precon Lead review, and flagging urgent items requiring immediate attention.
Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or Construction Management or related field.
- Around 2–5 years of experience with large infrastructure or energy projects — in preconstruction, project development, project controls, owner’s engineer / PMC, contracts administration, or infrastructure advisory. Renewable energy experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong analytical and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple RFP, estimating, and contract workstreams and data rooms simultaneously.
- Comfort with contract administration, version control, and detailed document tracking, including redlines, exhibit logs, and checklists.
- Working knowledge of project scheduling tools such as Primavera P6 or MS Project and strong Excel skills; exposure to Power BI, Power Automate, SharePoint, or Smartsheet is an advantage.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to work directly with senior U.S.-based Precon Leads, Contracts Managers, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Comfort operating across multiple projects and workstreams simultaneously, in an environment where scope is not always fully defined.
- A proactive and detail-oriented approach, with the judgment to flag gaps, risks, and blockers — such as stale exhibits, schedule slippage, or scope outliers — before they impact deadlines.
