DESRI (formerly D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments) is a market-leading owner and operator of renewable energy projects throughout the United States. We have acquired or developed approximately 13 gigawatts of contracted capacity across a portfolio of over 85 renewable energy projects in 24 states. DESRI is run by a dynamic team with offices located at New York, Denver, Portland, Houston and Hyderabad (India).
We are looking for a resourceful and driven professional to join DESRI, based out of the firm’s. The successful candidate will be a part of a growing, inclusive, highly skilled team responsible for supporting DESRI’s portfolio of wind, solar and battery projects in an agile environment that values collaboration, thoughtful problem solving, and attention to detail.
What you'll do
In this role, you’ll work closely with DESRI’s legal team on commercial agreements across our solar, wind, and storage portfolio. Collaborating with deal teams, asset managers, counterparties, and attorneys across DESRI offices, you will:
- Draft and negotiate commercial agreements including NDAs, professional services agreements, consulting agreements, and vendor contracts with counterparties throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review lease agreements, easements, options, and other site control documents supporting project development, coordinating due diligence with internal stakeholders and counsel as needed.
- Maintain playbooks, precedent language, contract records, and repositories; track review requests and escalate non-standard terms in accordance internal protocols.
- Coordinate with business stakeholders to ensure agreements align with DESRI policies and risk tolerance.
Qualifications
- Candidates should have a degree in law with a proven record of academic achievement and 2-3 years of experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial contracts, including NDAs, professional services agreements, and real estate or site control documentation, with exposure to coordinating deliverables across internal stakeholders and external counterparties.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured review guidelines and escalation protocols, with a demonstrated capacity for tracking multiple deliverables and compliance requirements across concurrent transactions.
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel, with experience using legal technology tools, including AI-based platforms and document automation systems, or demonstrated willingness and aptitude to quickly learn such tools.
- Ability to work effectively with US-based legal, project teams, and with external lenders and counsel, in a cross-border environment.
