Analyst / Senior Analyst – Detailed Design (Civil)

About DESRI

DESRI (formerly D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments) is a market-leading owner and operator of renewable energy projects throughout the United States. We have acquired or developed approximately 11.9 gigawatts of contracted capacity across a portfolio of over 80 renewable energy projects in 24 states. DESRI is run by a dynamic team with offices located at New York, Denver, and Hyderabad (India).

About the role
We are looking for a resourceful candidate to join DESRI based at the firm’s office in Hyderabad, India and will regularly interact with U.S. and Hyderabad-based teams, as well as external parties.

What you'll do
Lead or support civil detailed design for utility-scale PV projects from concept to Issue for Construction (IFC), ensuring designs are accurate, constructible, and cost-effective. Develop and refine site layouts, grading, and drainage using AutoCAD Civil 3D; evaluate tracker slope tolerances, spacing, shading/obstructions, and constructability. Perform mass grading/cut-fill analyses and optimize earthwork balance; plan access roads, internal circulation, laydown areas, and substation/collector pads. execute hydrologic and stormwater analyses (flood, erosion, inundation), and propose mitigation (e.g., channels, culverts, energy dissipation, erosion control). Consolidate topographic, geotechnical, environmental, and civil datasets to drive layout iterations; run multiple optimizations passes and clearly summarize trade-offs. Coordinate closely with Geotech, Electrical, Structural, GIS, and Project Management teams to ensure integrated designs and smooth handoffs to EPC partners.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) in Civil Engineering with 2-4 years or a Master of Technology (M. Tech) in Civil or related specialization with 1-3 years of relevant experience in large-scale solar, renewable, or land-development projects
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS); comfortable working with large site datasets (DEM/LiDAR, surfaces, survey, environmental constraints).
  • Working knowledge of grading, drainage, erosion control, access road design, and tracker-driven layout constraints for utility-scale PV.
  • Ability to run iterative design optimizations and communicate conclusions via well-organized drawings and design summaries.
  • Experience with hydrology/stormwater tools (e.g., HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, Civil Storm) and layout production tools (PVcase).
  • Familiarity with U.S. codes/standards and permitting practices (e.g., OSHA/EPA guidance; knowledge of ASTM/NEC interfaces during civil– electrical coordination).
  • Exposure to construction means/methods, field commissioning, and value-engineering for cost and schedule optimization.
