Job Summary:

As a VA Attorney, you will represent veterans in their pursuit of disability benefits before the VA, guiding them through all levels of the VA disability process, from initial applications to appeals. You will manage a caseload of hearings while ensuring a compassionate and professional client experience.  This position offers a high degree of independence and flexibility while requiring strict attention to deadlines and compliance with legal procedures. The ideal candidate has strong analytical, communication, and advocacy skills, as well as the ability to build lasting relationships with clients and stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Represent veterans in their VA disability claims and appeals.
  • Assist clients at all levels of the VA disability process, from initial applications to hearings and appeals.
  • Build and maintain strong attorney-client relationships through consistent communication and advocacy.
  • Conduct regular communication with clients, VA representatives, and other stakeholders while maintaining a professional and positive image of the firm.
  • Manage a steady caseload of hearings, ensuring integrity, skill, and compassion in representation.
  • Contact and evaluate prospective clients to screen and accept viable disability cases.
  • Support department and firm goals through effective communication, leadership, and representation.
  • Maintain a strict focus on deadlines and complete all tasks in a timely manner.
  • Report case developments and any challenges to a partner attorney in a timely fashion.

Qualifications:

·         Education:

1.      Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

·         State License:

    • Licensed to practice law in Michigan and in good standing with the State Bar.

·         Experience:

    • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience advocating for veterans or handling VA claims.
    • Experience working within the Michigan veteran community is highly preferred.

·         Skills:

    • Deep understanding of VA benefits and claims processes.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to interpret complex medical and service records.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and case management software.

    • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines effectively.

Working Conditions:

  • Flexible remote or hybrid work within Michigan.
  • Occasional travel within the state to meet with clients or attend hearings.
  • Ability to handle sensitive conversations with clients experiencing emotional or stressful situations.
