About the Role

We are seeking a cloud-experienced Operations Engineer to take on responsibility for our AWS hosted machine learning and platform environments. This role also involves strategising and collaboration with the internal machine learning, engineering, and product teams to enhance the reliability and efficiency of our platform. As a Machine Learning Operations Engineer at DISCO, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our platform. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Creating and executing on AWS architectures for new and existing features, keeping security, performance, and costs in mind
  • Using the latest and best technologies available to deliver our platform to our customers and users
  • Working with machine learning engineers and software engineers to deploy and monitor machine learning models into production
  • Identifying and documenting bugs and issues, and working closely with the development team to ensure timely resolution
  • Collaborating with data scientists, managers, and engineers to define and refine requirements and acceptance criteria
  • Participating in Agile ceremonies and providing estimates for tasks and project deliveries

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, we're looking for someone with the following qualifications:
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience working on AWS environments, preferably in a SaaS company
  • Strong understanding of cloud-first engineering and architectures - especially AWS services:
    • Lambda, SQS, ECS, Fargate, CloudFormation, CloudWatch, and Docker/containerisation
  • Proficiency in Python language and YAML/JSON configuration formats
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code configurations and deployments - especially familiarity with Terraform
  • Experience with issue tracking systems (e.g. JIRA)
  • Familiarity with Agile development practices and working in cross-functional Agile teams
  • Experience with continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
  • Experience with performance measurement and secure architectures
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
Nice to Haves
  • Experience with Machine or Deep Learning is a bonus
  • Experience with Elastic/OpenSearch is a bonus
  • Experience with compliance for SOC2TypeII is a bonus
  • Experience with AWS's security services are also bonus
