Position Title: Engineer I
Position Location: Remote - work virtually from anywhere in the United States
JOB SUMMARY
The Engineer I will have the opportunity to work with senior design staff to advance their design skills for commercial building design and construction. They will learn, through hands-on application, how to design a wide variety of projects. This person will work as part of the Engineering Team and interact closely with the Project Management Team to produce construction documents, assist in project specifications and assist in the construction administration process.
Engineers in this role may choose to pursue a project management–focused career track, gain exposure across all three MEP disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing/Fire Protection), or progress toward deeper specialization. Specialization paths may include Mechanical, Electrical, or Plumbing/Fire Protection design, as well as advanced focus areas such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Power Systems Studies, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), or other mission-critical engineering specialties, based on individual interests, strengths, and business needs.
The Engineer I will rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. This person will work under immediate supervision.
The Engineer I will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
ASSIST IN PRODUCTION OF ENGINEERING DOCUMENTS (50%)
- Perform basic engineering work and design tasks under a senior engineer’s supervision
- Perform standard computations and analysis
- Perform load calculations, equipment selection and pressure drop calculations
- Utilize AutoCAD and Revit software to prepare drawings and visual aids
- Assist in the review and creation of drawings details, schedules, sequence of operations and drawing content as directed
ASSIST IN PRE-CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES (15%)
- Survey existing building conditions and prepare technical reports of findings
- Collect data and other information for construction documents
- Prepare project design and construction documents
- Basic review and editing of project specifications
- Basic review of long lead equipment and impact on design conditions
ASSIST IN CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES (15%)
- Work as part of the engineering team and interact closely with the project management team
- Assist with construction administration tracking (submittals, RFIs, etc.)
- Review shop drawings and submittals
- Review and respond to RFIs
- Assist with punch lists and project closeout documents
REPORTING (10%)
- Prepare project progress reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Provide status updates on work products

- Leverage AI-enabled and digital tools to enhance efficiency, reduce manual effort, and support consistent, high-quality work output.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and demonstrate a continuous learning mindset, seeking out new technologies, skills, and methods that elevate individual and team performance.
- Adapt to emerging technologies and evolving digital workflows, actively supporting the integration and adoption of innovative tools across the organization.

Project Management Track would also include (percentages above would shift):
Project Coordination and Support
- Assist Project Managers with daytoday coordination of routine project tasks and deliverables.
- Track action items, schedules, and milestones under guidance to support timely project execution.
- Maintain organized project files and documentation to ensure accuracy and accessibility.
- Support coordination between internal teams and external stakeholders by relaying information and following up on routine requests.
- Organize and assist in QAQC and compilation of work products (including subconsultants) for external distribution
POSITION REQUIREMENTS (BEGINNER LEVEL FOR ALL THE FOLLOWING UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED)
- Knowledge of engineering principles
- Knowledge of code and specifications for design and engineering
- Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), along with exceptional organizational skills for file management
- Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
- Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows, optimize operational processes, and contribute to company-wide innovation.
- Ability to work successfully in a remote environment through effective communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, proactiveness and resourcefulness in a distraction free workspace
- Ability to follow company and site safety requirements
- Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports and correspondence
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form (technical and non-technical information)

TRAVEL / TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
- Up to 10%, this may include travel to any or all 50 US states
- The DLB Design team is planning mandatory in-person training and working sessions in June 2026. While details are still being finalized, these sessions are expected to take place in New Jersey during the second and third weeks of the month. Travel expenses will be covered. This will be a valuable opportunity to connect with fellow Design team members and gain deeper insight into our work.
- Effective May 7, 2025, and in accordance with U.S. federal regulations for domestic air travel, a valid REAL ID (or an acceptable alternative, such as a passport) is required for travel associated with this position.
- Travel may involve transportation by car or plane depending on the destination and nature of the business need.
- Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meeting for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from ABET accredited institution, with a sound knowledge of engineering fundamentals
