About the role
- As an HR specialist, you will play a key role in supporting the growth of our HR service line
What you'll do
- Client deliverables - You will help build core HR documents like handbooks, job descriptions, onboarding materials, performance review tools, and HR checklists. You will learn how to apply both legal compliance and people-centered strategy as you work.
- Support day-to-day client requests - Small business clients often reach out with real-time needs. You may help with research, drafting responses, preparing follow-up items, and gathering information so we can support them quickly and professionally.
- Office Hours - You will sit in on live conversations with CEOs, Leadership Teams, and a variety of other groups. You will observe how HR advising is done in real environments. You will also learn how to prepare agendas, capture notes, identify next steps, and follow up.
- Conduct HR research and benchmarking - You will help compare policies, explore best practices, track regulatory updates, and prepare summaries so we can offer accurate, informed guidance.
- Help with recruiting support - This may include screening resumes, helping coordinate interviews, preparing candidate summaries, and supporting any hiring projects our clients need.
- Participate in strategy and brainstorming sessions - You will join internal innovation discussions where we evaluate how to elevate the service, refine and hone our approach, and design an HR service line that scales with excellence.
- Engage with clients in a trusted advisor posture - As you grow, you will learn how to communicate clearly, manage expectations, and build rapport with small business leaders.
- Support the overall growth of the HR service line - You will help test new ideas, create internal processes, help refine client experiences, and contribute to shaping a business that is still early in its journey.
- Own your learning - You will be given space to try, practice, ask questions, and build confidence. This internship is structured for real development, not busywork.
The 10 Winning Characteristics We're Looking For
- Strong Character - Your character is who you are when no one is watching. It shows up in honesty, courage, integrity, and consistency. People trust you because you have values and your actions match them. You do not cut corners, hide mistakes, or take the easy way out. You choose the hard right instead of the easy wrong, and you carry yourself with maturity and self-control.
- Meet your commitments - We’re a team that depends on each other, so when you say you’ll do something, do it. We recognize that things come up, but being proactive, asking for help when needed, and managing expectations are all part of owning your responsibilities. If you're working on something with other Team Members, take ownership and feel accountable for the final outcome; not just your piece. Our Teammates thrive when they can count on us to deliver.
- Communicate well - We believe clarity builds trust. That means listening actively, sharing information early and often, and tailoring your message to your audience. Good communication isn’t just about talking; it’s about making sure others feel heard, informed, and respected. Whether it’s in an email, a meeting, or a hallway conversation, we expect Team Members to be thoughtful, timely, and direct in how they communicate.
- Entrepreneurial Spirit - You enjoy solving problems, creating solutions, and building things that do not yet exist. You are resourceful, curious, adaptable, and energized by a fast-changing environment. You thrive in ambiguity and enjoy figuring out what the right path forward should be.
- Exceptional Client Service - You take ownership of client relationships and consistently aim to deliver excellence. You listen carefully, respond promptly, and act as a trusted advisor. You understand that client trust is earned through reliability, relatability, and quality work.
- Be Kind - Treat people with respect, patience, and compassion at all times. Kindness isn’t just being nice; it’s how we create a workplace that’s safe, supportive, and human. It means assuming good intent, practicing empathy, and choosing grace even when things are stressful or unclear. We don’t believe in egos or sharp elbows here.
- Be Humble - We value those who are confident without being arrogant. Being humble means being open to feedback, willing to learn, and quick to give credit to others. It means recognizing that no one has all the answers and that collaboration is more powerful than pride. We lead with curiosity, not ego.
- Be Hungry - We look for people who take initiative, seek growth, and want to make things better. Being hungry means going the extra mile, staying curious, looking for additional work when capacity allows, and pushing yourself and the team to improve. It’s not about working nonstop. It’s about bringing drive, energy, and ownership to everything you do. This is someone who is often not content with the status quo and finds themselves asking themselves the question, "What's a better way?"
- Be Smart - We’re not talking about IQ (though we’re sure yours is off the charts). Being smart means applying sound judgment, learning from experience, and navigating complex situations with a clear head. It means being people-smart: reading the room, adapting your approach, and understanding the impact your actions have on others.
- Be Fun - We take our work seriously, not ourselves. We believe joy and laughter have a place at work, and we want people who contribute positively to the team’s energy. Being fun means bringing a light spirit, showing appreciation, and creating moments of connection along the way. We’re better when we enjoy the ride together.
