About Donum Dei Classical Academy

Donum Dei Classical Academy, a Gift of God, opened in August 2019 in San Francisco, California. Our mission is to impart a rich classical Christian curriculum full of Scriptural truth and life-giving experiences. We exist to nourish students’ hearts, souls, minds, and bodies for the purpose of growing in them knowledge, wisdom, good character, and Christ-like virtue worthy of bringing glory to our great God. The leadership team has set the foundation for a rich intellectual and spiritual culture, with excellent teachers across disciplines who are dedicated to shaping the hearts and minds of the young.

School Hours

Monday through Thursday, 8:00am-3:15pm and Friday, 8:00am-1:30pm | Extended Care until 5:30pm

Requirements

  • Agree with Donum Dei’s Statement of Faith and serve as a minister of the Gospel.
  • Complete professional development requirements and safety training throughout the school year as applicable.
  • Attend Morning Assembly (M/W/F at 8am) and Friday Staff Meetings (1:45-2:45) as applicable.
  • Participate in school activities such as Parent Orientation, Back to School Night, The Greatest Gift, equipping events and fundraisers as applicable.
  • Have a love for children, display a love for learning, and commit to cultivate that love for learning in students.
  • Devote yourself wholeheartedly to the Lord and be in good standing with a Christian church

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Professional working experience in specified job areas
  • Pursue the ACSI Teacher Certification, Classical Educator Equivalent, CA Teacher Credential, or Master’s in Classical Education within two years of initial employment.

Role & Responsibilities


Classical Teaching Approach:

  • Teach visual arts in alignment with the classical education philosophy, integrating art with other disciplines, particularly history, and using the classical method of instruction.
  • Focus on giving students the tools they need to develop artistic skills, engage in self-directed learning, and foster their joy and creativity in the arts.
  • Encourage the development of students’ rhetorical skills through artistic study, experimentation, and the exploration of various mediums.


Curriculum Development & Instruction:

  • Develop and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans and activities that are aligned with state learning standards and the classical education philosophy.
  • Plan and implement a curriculum that promotes artistic expression, skill-building, and creativity.
  • Provide students with an understanding of various artistic techniques, art history, and the connections between art and culture.


Classroom Management & Organization:

  • Organize and manage the visual arts classroom, ensuring it is an inspiring and well-maintained environment.
  • Maintain an inventory of art supplies, ensuring that all necessary materials are available for students to use and creatively explore.
  • Implement routines and systems for keeping the classroom orderly, ensuring all supplies are properly stored, and tidying up after each class.


Student Development & Evaluation:

  • Monitor student progress, evaluate artistic performance, and provide meaningful feedback on both their technical skills and creative expression.
  • Track the development of character, virtue, and social-emotional growth in students through their art projects.
  • Provide timely communication to parents regarding their child’s progress in art class.


Collaboration & Integration:

  • Work closely with other faculty members to integrate visual arts into other subjects, especially history, across grade levels.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and professional development workshops to continuously grow in teaching skills and deepen understanding of the classical method.


Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Keep accurate records of students' work and grades, keeping the gradebook updated and accessible to parents via the school server.
  • Provide lesson plans for substitute teachers and secure a substitute in the event of an absence (e.g., sickness, doctor’s appointments, jury duty).
  • Complete regular report cards and progress reports according to the academic calendar.
  • Keep lesson plans and curriculum maps updated on the server.


Event Participation & Support:

  • Collaborate in planning and supporting the school’s spring Auction showcasing student artwork and providing an opportunity for the community to appreciate their creative talents as well as fundraise for the school.


Schedule & Compensation

Working Schedule

Fridays 9-12:30 (Teaching 9:30-12, with set up before and and clean up after)

  • Working Schedule: including but not limited to school trimesters, required in-service days,  and required professional development days.

Employment Type

Part Time Exempt - 8 hours per week

Set PTO and Sick Pay

Teaching Staff Set PTO Schedule

  • Set PTO: Based on the published Academic Calendar


San Francisco County Sick Pay

  • 72 hours annually accrued at a rate of 1 hour per 30 hours worked.

Compensation

Compensation is an annual salary paid bimonthly with partial salary paid as tuition credit if applicable/requested.
