Job Summary:

Door Controls USA is currently seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Gear Cutter/Grinder with gear cutting and grinding experience. Produces machined parts by setting up and operating Barber-Coleman gear hobber machines; prepare materials for machines; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies; maintain shop cleanliness and scrap material bins. Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Prepare materials for use within the department using automated saws, chop saws and vibratory machines.
  • Maintain shop cleanliness using standard cleaning practices.
  • Handle and transport scrap materials to discard and recycle bin in various locations.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints to set-up and operate various gear / pinion manufacturing equipment.
  • Operates gear / pinion manufacturing machines including manual loading/unloading, indicating and measuring of parts.
  • Maintains preventative maintenance of equipment.
  • Inspects and changes cutters as needed to produce quality parts.
  • Hand deburrs finished parts to produce a uniform edge break of gear / pinion teeth.
  • Moves finished parts from the gear production area to the gearbox assembly area.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Read machining instructions, blueprints, and gear specification sheets to define machine settings, fixtures, and required hobs used for dimensions and tolerances.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Strong ability to read blueprints and shop drawings.
  • Experience with a variety of hand tools
  • Experience operating gear hobbers or other lathes.
  • Experience using micrometers, calipers and go/no-go gauges.

Experience:

Gear Hobbing, Lathe or CNC experience a plus.

2+ years in manufacturing / production environment.


Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of standing up and working on your feet.

Must be able to lift up to 50+ pounds at times.
