What is the purpose of this role?
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Tax Specialist to support our organization on a contractor basis. This is an ongoing consulting need with variable weekly hours, with a significant increase in scope during Q1.

This individual will play a critical role in ensuring payroll tax accuracy, compliance, and proper setup across federal, state, and local jurisdictions, while also supporting workers’ compensation configuration, audits, and reconciliations. What will you do?
- Set up, review, and maintain payroll tax accounts, tax codes, and filings across federal, state, and local jurisdictions
- Support payroll tax implications related to a company name change, including registrations, updates, and compliance coordination
- Lead and support workers’ compensation setup, including class codes, jurisdiction mapping, and carrier coordination
- Assist with workers’ comp audits, premium reconciliations, and adjustments
- Ensure payroll tax compliance and accuracy, including filings, notices, and issue resolution
- Partner closely during the Rippling payroll and HRIS implementation, including system configuration, validation, and testing
- Provide guidance on payroll-related processes tied to employee compensation accuracy (as needed)
- Collaborate cross-functionally with People Ops, Finance, and external vendors to ensure clean, compliant payroll operations
- Troubleshoot and resolve payroll tax or workers’ comp discrepancies as they arise
What do you bring to DOOR?
- Proven experience specifically with Payroll Tax
- Strong, hands-on experience with:
- Federal, state, and local payroll tax compliance
- Workers’ compensation setup, audits, and premium reconciliations
- Experience working with multiple payroll providers
- Prior experience supporting HRIS systems
- Experience supporting company changes from a tax and payroll perspective (e.g., name changes, entity updates)
- Highly detail-oriented with strong reconciliation and audit skills
- Comfortable working in a contractor/consultant capacity with fluctuating weekly hours
- Proactive, responsive, and able to work independently in a remote environment
