This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Sydney CBD. There are approximately 380 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 500 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Netherlands, Denmark, Mexico and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.


About the role

DroneShield is seeking an Algorithms Engineer to join our team in Sydney, Australia. You will report to the SensorFusionAI (SFAI) Team Lead and play a key role in driving the next generation of our sensor fusion engine.

This is a unique opportunity to apply your skills in tracking, optimisation, and real-time systems to help counter advanced drone threats at scale. You will collaborate across multiple engineering teams, and your work will directly power mission-critical detection and tracking capabilities for real-world deployments.


Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations 

  • Be a key contributor to the development and evolution of DroneShield’s sensor fusion engine, with a focus on improving its tracking capability of large-scale drone swarms.
  • Profile, benchmark, and optimise performance-critical sensor fusion code using multi-threading, GPU acceleration, language bindings, and other advanced techniques.
  • Review, test and assess the latest research in multi-object tracking ensuring DroneShield’s sensor fusion engine continues to use cutting-edge, high-performance algorithms.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines that ensure high code quality, performance and stability.
  • Work in close collaboration with relevant stakeholders to troubleshoot and resolve issues and bug reports.
  • Apply software engineering best practices including refactoring, testing, and documentation to maintain the highest standards of code quality and maintainability.
  • Collaborate closely with other engineers and become a valued member of an autonomous, cross-functional team.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills 

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a professional Software Engineering environment
  • Proficiency in C++ and familiarity with other general-purpose languages (ideally Python or Golang)
  • Experience with CMake and unit testing frameworks
  • Familiarity with Linux and containerisation using Docker
  • Experience in creating automated workflows for CI/CD
  • Strong grasp of data structures, algorithms, and the application of mathematics and physics in software development

Nice To Have

  • Experience with sensor fusion, multi-sensor data processing, or object tracking algorithms
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or similar observability frameworks
