This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Pyrmont, Sydney. There are approximately 290 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 350 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Denmark, Germany and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.


About the role

As DroneShield continues to grow its production capabilities and global delivery footprint, the Quality Technician Team Lead will play a critical role in upholding product assurance across our manufacturing and deployment lifecycle. 


Working as part of the Quality and Safety function, you will lead a team of Quality Technicians responsible for Incoming Quality Control, In-Process Quality Control and Outgoing Quality Control. You will provide day-to-day leadership and coordination of quality operations, along with the Quality & Safety Manager. This role will be reporting to Quality and Safety Manager. 


This role requires a quality-driven, detail-oriented individual with excellent communication and organisational skills, capable of balancing frontline supervision with a strong technical understanding of inspection methods, documentation, and standards compliance. 


Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations  

  • Provide daily supervision, task prioritisation, and hands-on support to Quality Technicians performing IQC, IPQC and OQC. 
  • Ensure adherence to DroneShield’s QMS procedures and inspection protocols, including timely and accurate documentation of inspection outcomes and non-conformances. 
  • Review inspection reports, non-conformance records (NCRs), and rework dispositions. 
  • Liaise with Production, Engineering, and Procurement to resolve quality issues and ensure readiness for delivery milestones. 
  • Support the Quality & Safety Manager in internal audits, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective & preventive actions. 
  • Mentor and coach team members to strengthen competency and quality mindset. 
  • Maintain calibration records, inspection tools, and quality control areas in line with best practice and safety requirements. 

Qualifications, Experience and Skills  

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a Quality Technician, Inspector, or related role within defence, aerospace, electronics manufacturing, or high-tech industry. 
  • Experience supervising or coordinating the work of other technicians or inspectors. 
  • Strong understanding of ISO 9001 (required). 
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical and/or electronic inspection processes, tools, and techniques. 
  • Proficient in interpreting technical drawings, assembly instructions, and specification sheets. 
  • Strong documentation skills; experience using ERP and QMS software systems. 
  • Collaborative and proactive mindset, with the ability to interface confidently across technical and operational teams. 
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
