This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Pyrmont, Sydney. There are approximately 240 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 300 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Denmark, Germany and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.


About the role

DroneShield is looking to recruit a Safety Officer who will work with the team to ensure compliance with work health and safety Regulations and Act. The position will report primarily to the Quality & Safety Manager and will work closely with the different areas of the business.


Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations 

  • Planning, implementing and overseeing compliance with WHS Regulations and Act
  • Develop and/or maintain risk assessments for sites including installation sites domestic and international
  • Hazard identification, prevention and documentation
  • Managing Workplace inspections, incident reporting
  • Records and investigates injuries and equipment damage, and reports safety performance
  • Preparing Safe Work Method Statements as required
  • Trains employees in personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe working procedures
  • Evaluate activities and processes for compliance with work health and safety legislation, policies and procedures relevant to Defence industry.
  • Co-ordinates the return of injured workers into the workplace
  • Conduct safety audits
  • Promote workplace safety culture

Qualifications, Experience and Skills 

  • Defence or Defence Industry experience is desirable
  • Experience in Safety role in a similar industry
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001
  • Knowledge of Legislative requirements
  • Knowledge of SafeWork NSW Code of practices
  • Knowledge of WHS Act & Regulations
