This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Pyrmont, Sydney. There are approximately 290 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 350 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Denmark, Germany and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.


About the role


Drone Shield’s Production Team is growing to support higher production volumes and increasing product complexity. We are looking for a Production Technician to join the team, with a strong focus on mechanical and electronic assembly, as well as hands-on testing using RF equipment.

This role will contribute to both the production of established products and the testing and refinement of new designs in collaboration with our Technical Team. A solid understanding of electronics and RF systems is preferred, as is familiarity with working across different stages of the product lifecycle. While soldering is not a requirement for this role, prior experience with soldering cables and PCBAs is a valuable advantage. 

This position reports primarily to the Manufacturing Manager and involves close collaboration with team members across Production, Design, and Procurement. Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations  

  • Assemble DroneShield products with precision, following detailed build documentation and assembly procedures
  • Handle and assemble sensitive electronic components using proper ESD-safe procedures
  • Conduct product testing using a range of RF test equipment, including VNAs, spectrum analysers and anechoic chamber
  • Accurately complete travellers, QC records, and other production documentation as part of the build process
  • Occasionally assist with soldering tasks during production or R&D support
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area to support efficient production flow
  • Provide feedback to the Production and Design teams to improve build processes and product design 

Qualifications, Experience and Skills 

  • Proven experience in manufacturing, particularly with complex product assemblies
  • Strong background in electro-mechanical assembly
  • Ability to interpret and follow detailed assembly and testing procedures
  • Skilled in reading and understanding complex technical documentation
  • Confident using computers and comfortable working with software tools for documentation, data entry, testing logs, and production tracking
  • Hands-on experience with RF testing and equipment is highly desirable
  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering or a relevant technical certification is highly desirable
  • Genuine passion for technology and innovation
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong sense of integrity and commitment to following established processes
  • Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and perform under pressure
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proactive “can-do” attitude, with a willingness to assist across a range of tasks, even those outside the core role
