Senior Infrastructure Engineer - Kubernetes (AU)

With one of the largest listed defence company market capitalisations in Australia and having raised approximately $250m in 2024 alone, DroneShield is undergoing hypergrowth stage, fuelled by rapidly increasing use of drones for nefarious applications, from battlefield, to terrorism, to contraband delivery and commercial espionage.

This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Pyrmont, Sydney. There are approximately 200 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 300 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Denmark, Germany and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.


About the role


We’re looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer with extensive experience running Kubernetes at scale to join the team as we build out a market-first K8s cluster running on top of globally distributed data centers. Deep knowledge of K8’s on bare-metal Linux is essential for this role, as we operate at the cutting edge of high-performance infrastructure at petabyte+ scale. Key responsibilities on top of this include addressing high-volume data processing, enabling MLOps projects (ClearML), and integrating machine learning services. This role reports to the AI Infra Lead.

  

Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations 

  • Lead the architecture and ownership of our K8’s cluster (multiple remote nodes) 
  • Work with the team on building and improving our MLOps infrastructure  
  • Collaborate with software and technology teams to solve complex problems involving distributed systems, data engineering, security, and system resilience. 
  • Find solutions for both on-prem and cloud-based systems. 

Qualifications, Experience and Skills 

  • Extensive knowledge of Kubernetes, and the ability to use K8’s on Linux - CKA/CKS 
  • Advanced knowledge of Linux, specifically Layer 1 Layer 2 networking, Process Monitoring, Networks, System Performance, and Bash Scripting. 
  • Experience working in MLOps – ClearML, Kubeflow etc. 
  • Experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC). 
  • Expertise in configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef. 
  • Strong experience with AWS.
  • Solid understanding of networking and security
