NPI Technician (AU)

This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Sydney CBD. There are approximately 380 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 500 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Netherlands, Denmark, Mexico and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.


About the role

The company is seeking an NPI Technician with relevant experience to join the team in Sydney, NSW. The position will report to the NPI Team Lead.

It is a hands-on role responsible for the assembly of prototypes, test rigs and R+D devices. This role would suit someone who loves building and fixing electronic devices and learning how they work. This role will also be responsible for the operation and maintenance of various models of 3D printers for the business. There will be limited interstate travel required for this role.


Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations 

  • Work with the NPI Team and broader Tech Team to assembly and test prototype products
  • Maintain, repair and upgrade R+D devices for the Tech Team
  • Operate and maintain multiple 3D printers, responsible for providing 3D printed parts to the Tech Team and Operations Team
  • Assembly, upgrade and maintenance of production test rigs
  • Troubleshoot production line issues in-house or at a contract manufacturer and provide clear feedback to the broader NPI Team
  • Positive attitude and proactive problem-solving skills

Qualifications, Experience and Skills 

  • Degree or practical experience working with electronics and products
  • Experience in the assembly and repair of electronic equipment
  • Skilled in cable and component soldering (down to 0402 size)
  • IPC soldering certification preferred
  • Ability to read electrical schematics preferred
  • Experience reading and executing work instructions
  • Experience with troubleshooting electronics faults
  • Understanding of 3D printing and 3D printing software preferred
  • SolidWorks experience preferred
