This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Sydney CBD. There are approximately 380 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 500 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Netherlands, Denmark, Mexico and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.


About the role

Own the uptime, safety and readiness of DroneShield’s Australian test sites and demo equipment. You’ll run planned and corrective maintenance, execute readiness checks, support trials/demonstrations, and keep our sites compliant and mission ready. This role reports to the Test & Evaluation (T&E) Team Lead. 


Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations 

Test Site Operations & Maintenance 

  • Plan and execute maintenance activities across CUAS and IT infrastructure: radars, RF sensors, cameras, servers, networking, power, and communications. 
  • Perform sensor calibrations, software updates, network configuration (switching/routing/VLANs), and functional checks. 
  • Maintain site infrastructure (masts, tripods, trailers, mounts), ensure weatherproofing, cable management, and corrosion control. 
  • Monitor and manage batteries, UPS, generators and solar systems; maintain safe charging/storage for Liion systems. 
  • Keep maintenance logs, asset registers and site documentation current. 

Test / Demonstration Support 

  • Set up and operate instrumentation (e.g., spectrum analysers, data capture tools) and assist with test execution. 
  • Capture logs, photos/videos, and structured results; feed findings to T&E and Engineering. 
  • Support training events and customer demonstrations at DroneShield sites. 

Stakeholder Engagement 

  • Work closely with T&E, Engineering, Drone Operations and Field Service Engineering teams. 
  • Provide clear status updates, escalate risks early and close actions promptly. 

Qualifications, Experience and Skills 

Essential: 

  • Background in networking, Linux, telecommunications, and electronics. 
  • Practical hands-on skills in hardware installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance. 
  • Experience in equipment inspection, quality checks, and light repair activities. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable working directly with customers. 
  • Ability to work autonomously in the field, including remote or austere environments. 

Desirable: 

  • Experience in defence, aerospace, or security systems. 
  • Familiarity with RF systems, sensors, or networked technologies. 
  • Previous exposure to customer demonstrations, trials, or training delivery.
