About the role

As a Backend Engineer at dub, you’ll be instrumental in building and optimizing cloud-native backend services that power a high-performance platform handling millions of API calls. You’ll work with technologies like AWS, EKS, Postgres, DynamoDB, Kafka, SNS/SQS, and Lambdas to develop scalable, reliable systems. This role requires the ability to switch contexts quickly, balancing multiple priorities, and having the foresight to anticipate challenges and "see around corners" as the platform grows and scales.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using C#, .NET Core, or equivalent languages in a cloud-native environment.
  • Optimize and scale our platform to ensure performance, reliability, and high availability as user demand grows.
  • Work with AWS services such as EKS, DynamoDB, Postgres, Lambdas, SNS/SQS, and Kafka to build and maintain a highly scalable infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate services and ensure seamless data flow across millions of transactions.
  • Quickly switch contexts and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining a forward-thinking approach to potential challenges.
  • Take ownership of key platform components, working closely with team members and stakeholders to drive them from concept to production.

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of software engineering experience building microservices using C#/.NET Core or equivalent languages (Java, Python, Go), or relevant educational background. Prior professional experience is valued but not required.
  • Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs, with a focus on scalability and best practices.
  • Working knowledge of AWS cloud services and cloud-native development principles.
  • Understanding of database systems, particularly Postgres and DynamoDB.
  • Exposure to message-driven architectures, especially using Kafka or AWS messaging services (SNS/SQS).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for identifying potential issues before they arise.
  • While experience with high-traffic systems is beneficial, we're more interested in your understanding of scalability principles and eagerness to learn.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with team members.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience working in a fast-growing startup environment, particularly dealing with rapidly scaling financial systems.
  • Familiarity with the challenges of scaling financial platforms in high-growth environments.
  • Knowledge of container orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS) and event-driven architectures (Lambdas).
  • Experienced in using observability tools like Datadog, Prometheus, or AWS CloudWatch to monitor, trace, and resolve issues in production environments under real load.
  • Skilled in managing transactional and consistent data, ensuring data integrity and reliability in high-scale environments.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary ranging from $100k-$155k, commensurate with experience and geography to include equity
  • 100% paid health insurance for employees with partial coverage for dependents
  • Time away, including company holidays and unlimited PTO
  • Lively office environment with fully stocked snacks, coffee, espresso, and other perks
  • A meritocratic philosophy that champions collaboration.
