The Senior / Principal Environmental Due Diligence Growth Lead will spearhead the expansion, delivery, and technical leadership of our environmental due diligence practice. This role focuses on business development, client relationship management, project execution, and technical oversight, with a strong emphasis on Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A)-driven due diligence.
This senior leader will play a key role in shaping strategic growth initiatives, driving new opportunities across private equity and strategic buyers, and mentoring a high‑performing due diligence team.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Growth Leadership
- Drive expansion of environmental due diligence services through targeted new sales, specifically with private equity firms, corporate buyers, and M&A advisory partners.
- Develop and implement strategic growth plans to diversify service offerings and penetrate new industry sectors beyond the existing client base.
- Leverage knowledge of the broader environmental, health & safety (EHS) services portfolio to identify and execute cross‑selling opportunities within the organization.
- Serve as a senior client-facing leader, effectively representing the due diligence practice to prospective and existing clients.
Client Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for incoming environmental due diligence engagements.
- Manage private equity and corporate M&A clients through the full deal lifecycle, including project initiation, communication of findings, budget oversight, invoice management, and ongoing relationship development.
- Ensure timely, responsive, and high-quality interactions across all client touchpoints.
Project Execution
- Lead and manage environmental due diligence projects—including Phase I ESAs, desktop reviews, limited compliance evaluations, and other transaction-related environmental deliverables.
- Integrate environmental risk identification and mitigation strategies into M&A workflows, supporting clients in understanding deal risks and implications.
- Oversee project teams to ensure quality, consistency, and efficiency across due diligence engagements.
Technical Leadership & Quality Assurance
- Conduct high-level technical reviews of due diligence reports, findings, and recommendations prior to client delivery, ensuring accuracy and technical excellence.
- Mentor and develop team members by providing constructive feedback, training, and guidance on technical competencies and professional growth.
- Promote a culture of client service excellence, responsiveness, and accountability within the due diligence team.
Travel Expectations
- Travel as needed for site visits, conferences, and client development—typically one to two 2‑day trips per month, with additional travel during major due diligence efforts.
Technical & Subject-Matter Expertise
- Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) proficiency
- Knowledge of ASTM and EPA standards
- Understanding of environmental regulatory frameworks (federal, state, and local)
- Experience with M&A due diligence workflows, risk evaluation, and deal timelines
- Ability to interpret environmental data, historical uses, and regulatory records
- Familiarity with EHS compliance programs and cross-functional risk assessments
- Strong technical writing and report quality assurance skills
