Essential Job Functions
ELG’s litigators prosecute and defend cases involving voting rights, redistricting, the First Amendment, and other areas consistent with the firm’s and its clients’ missions. ELG consistently has active cases in both state and federal courts and at the trial court and appellate level, including before the U.S. Supreme Court. These matters are often high pressure, fast paced, and offer a rewarding opportunity for lawyers who want to use their litigation skills on the front lines to protect democracy and support the efforts of progressive clients.
We are currently actively seeking current and recent federal law clerks as well as recent DOJ Honors Program participants or those who were slated to begin jobs as part of the Honors Program, to apply for the position of Litigation Associate. Excellent legal writing skills are a must, as are excellent oral presentation skills, careful attention to detail and the ability to work quickly, thoughtfully, and collaboratively in a challenging and fast-paced environment. Prior active litigation experience (including in law school clinics) is a plus, as is journal experience. High performing litigation associates can expect to get substantial and meaningful responsibility for important filings, as well as opportunities early in their career to take depositions and even appear in court.
All applicants are asked to address the following in their cover letter:
- Why are you interested in ELG?
- What is the best lesson you've learned in the past five years?
- Tell a story that illustrates your problem solving skills.
- How would you add value to the practice and your case teams beginning in your first month?
