Staff Attorney

Job Summary

Elias Law Group LLP is a mission driven law firm, dedicated to helping Democrats win, citizens vote, and progressives make change, with offices in Washington, D.C. and Seattle, Washington. We are currently seeking to add a Staff Attorney to our Washington, D.C. office.


Staff Attorneys are responsible for conflict searches and reviews, drafting motions for pro hac vice admission, cite checking legal filings, assisting trial teams with the preparation and presentation of exhibits, and supporting eDiscovery functions by setting up databases, ingesting data, running productions, and reviewing, analyzing, and coding documents produced in discovery. Staff attorneys may also conduct legal and factual research, draft memos, help prepare for depositions, and assist with other discovery-related tasks.


This is a hybrid role and requires some in-office presence in Washington, D.C.

Compensation


Salary commensurate with class year, ranging from $110,000 to $130,000.


Essential Job Functions

  • Analyze, resolve, and escalate conflicts of interest related to new business and new hires.
  • Effectively work with Chief Operating Officer and firm attorneys to obtain the relevant information to make determinations on potential conflicts of interest.
  • Assist litigation teams with researching pro hac vice rules and requirements and drafting motions to appear pro hac vice.
  • Prepare engagement letters using firm templates.
  • Bluebook, cite check, and proofread pleadings, motions, and briefs.
  • Assist with various eDiscovery tasks, including but not limited to reviewing and coding documents, ingesting documents into eDiscovery platforms for review, and preparing document productions.
  • Draft subpoenas, research third-party subpoena requirements, and arrange for service of process.
  • Assist attorneys and paralegals in preparing for depositions and court appearances.
  • Provide “hot-seat” support to trial teams by preparing, organizing, and presenting exhibits during state and federal court proceedings.
  • Collecting, organizing, and producing documents in response to various types of discovery requests.
  • Provide case management support, including monitoring and follow-up on case calendars, filing deadlines, and paper and electronic docket research.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Admitted to practice DC or immediately eligible for admission to the DC Bar by waiver.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills;
  • Unwavering attention to detail;
  • Strong familiarity with the federal rules of civil procedure;
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at one time;
  • Have a strong team mentality (with the attitude that no job is too small);
  • Committed to the mission of ELG.

Work Environment

  • Position will operate on a hybrid schedule in a professional office environment in which you are expected to work in office at least three (3) days a week (currently Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).  The ability to work additional hours beyond the normal schedule may be required, especially around relevant election dates or filing periods.
  • Position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. 
  • Position requires that the employee be able to multitask in a fast-paced work environment. 
  • Availability to travel for occasional trials and hearings.

Physical Demands

  • This position is primarily a sedentary position.  However, some duties and responsibilities may require the employee to lift files, open filing cabinets, bend or stand, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, occasionally move about to access office equipment, file cabinets, etc.
  • May require employee to carry or lift items weighing up to 10 pounds.
