Avicado Construction Technology Services, LLC

Design Manager

As a Design Manager, you will serve as an extension of the Owner’s team, driving execution across a portfolio of data center design projects. This role combines project management, design coordination, process improvement, and stakeholder leadership to ensure successful delivery of complex infrastructure programs. You will work closely with Engineers of Record (EORs), design teams, and client stakeholders to manage schedules, identify risks, improve processes, and drive accountability across multiple concurrent projects.

You will love this job if…

  • You’re a high performer and self-starter who takes initiative and follows through
  • You take ownership of projects and enjoy driving progress and outcomes
  • You thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments and can work across teams
  • You enjoy problem-solving and improving processes, not just maintaining them
  • You’re not afraid to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and push for better solutions
  • You like to have fun and be your authentic self

What you’ll do…

Serve as an extension of the Owner’s team, helping drive project execution, coordination, and delivery across design and construction stakeholders.

  • Manage and coordinate external design consultants (architectural, structural, MEP, civil) through all project phases, including scope changes, RFIs, and value engineering efforts.
  • Review design submissions and coordinate QA/QC processes to ensure compliance with owner standards, codes, and program requirements.
  • Track design milestones, deliverable schedules, and interdisciplinary coordination across the project portfolio.
  • Drive design standardization, lessons-learned integration, and continuous improvement of design management processes.
  • Serve as the owner's primary point of contact for all design-related matters, interfacing between design teams, construction/GC teams, and internal stakeholders
  • Facilitate project kickoffs, design reviews, cross-functional coordination meetings, and milestone planning sessions.
  • Identify, track, and escalate project risks, schedule impacts, and delivery challenges to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Support permitting coordination and authority-having-jurisdiction (AHJ) engagement throughout the design and construction lifecycle.
  • Ensure project documentation, records, and final deliverables are complete, accurate, and successfully transitioned through project closeout.
  • Analyze project performance metrics, partner with client teams, and recommend operational improvements to reduce inefficiencies and scale program execution.
  • Leverage AI-enabled tools and workflows to accelerate deliverable reviews, streamline reporting, and improve decision-making.

You should have

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil), or Construction Management
  • 8–15+ years experience in design management for mission critical, industrial, or large commercial projects
  • Familiarity with data center infrastructure (power, cooling, structured cabling)
  • Experience managing multi-discipline design teams on $100M+ projects
  • Proven ability to drive accountability and influence stakeholders without direct authority
  • Experience leading process improvement initiatives and implementing operational efficiencies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Data center design, construction, mission critical, industrial, energy, manufacturing, semiconductor, or large-scale infrastructure experience.
  • Experience supporting owner-side project delivery programs.
  • Experience working with Engineers of Record (EORs).
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).
  • Basic understanding of Revit and BIM workflows.
  • Experience developing or improving project management processes and standards.
  • Experience using AI tools to improve productivity, reporting, workflow automation, or project delivery.
  • PMP, PMI-ACP, CCM, or related project management certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated use of AI tools and workflows to improve project management, reporting, process efficiency, knowledge management, or operational delivery
