POSITION SUMMARY
The AI Technologist designs, builds and safely deploys AI capabilities across Colure Health’s care coordination platform. Working with the CTO and the development team, this role turns care-operations problems, such as documentation burden, patient outreach, enrollment triage and billing accuracy, into practical, measurable AI tools. Because Colure handles protected health information, the role is equally accountable for doing this work securely, transparently and in line with HIPAA and CMS program requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
AI Solution Development
• Design, prototype and ship AI features using large language models and machine learning, including summarization of care notes, call transcription and QA support, outreach prioritization and workflow automation.
• Build retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines and integrations with Colure’s platform, EHR data and internal knowledge bases.
• Evaluate build-versus-buy options for AI vendors and APIs, and lead technical diligence on new tools.
Responsible and Compliant AI
• Ensure AI systems that touch PHI run only on approved infrastructure with a signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA) in place, and apply de-identification where appropriate.
• Maintain an inventory of AI models and use cases, with documented intended use, data sources, limitations and human-review requirements.
• Build evaluation and monitoring for accuracy, bias, hallucination and drift; keep a human in the loop for any output that affects patient care or billing.
Data and Infrastructure
• Partner with the development team on data pipelines, prompt and model versioning, logging and deployment (MLOps).
• Monitor model performance, usage and cost, and recommend optimizations.
Enablement
• Translate needs from care operations, enrollment, billing and leadership into technical requirements and roadmaps.
• Train staff on approved AI tools, and contribute to Colure’s AI acceptable-use policy.
• Stay current on AI developments and relevant healthcare regulation, and brief the CTO on opportunities and risks.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of hands-on software or machine learning engineering, including at least one AI/LLM application shipped to production.
• Strong Python skills; experience with LLM APIs, embeddings, vector databases and RAG patterns.
• Experience with a major cloud platform (AWS, Azure or GCP) and with APIs, containers and version control.
• Working knowledge of data privacy and security principles for sensitive data.
• Clear communicator who can explain AI capabilities and limits to non-technical colleagues.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience in healthcare technology, including HIPAA-regulated environments, EHR integrations, HL7/FHIR or claims data.
• Familiarity with CMS care management programs (CCM, RPM, TCM, BHI) or value-based care.
• Experience with speech-to-text, conversational AI or contact-center analytics.
• Familiarity with AI governance frameworks such as the NIST AI Risk Management Framework.
MEASURES OF SUCCESS
• Within 90 days: AI use-case inventory and prioritized roadmap agreed with the CTO.
• Within 6 months: at least one AI tool in production with documented evaluation results and measurable time savings for care operations.
• Ongoing: zero PHI exposure through unapproved AI tools or vendors.
PRIVACY, SECURITY AND CONDUCT
• Completes HIPAA privacy and security training at hire and annually, and acknowledges Colure’s workforce confidentiality policies.
• Accesses protected health information (PHI) only to the minimum necessary for assigned duties, using company-issued, managed devices and approved systems.
• Reports suspected security incidents, privacy concerns or policy violations immediately to the Chief Technology Officer and the Chief People and Privacy Officer.
• Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment background check, as permitted by applicable law, is a condition of employment.
