Who We Are

At Framework, we believe the time has come for products that are designed to last. Founded in San Francisco in 2020, our mission is to remake Consumer Electronics to respect people and the planet.

We've started with two award-winning products, the Framework Laptop 13 and 16. Our laptops are thin, light, high-performance notebooks that can be upgraded, customized, and repaired in ways that no other notebook can. Alongside this, we've launched the Framework Marketplace to enable an ecosystem of parts and modules.

In 2026, we introduced Framework Laptop 13 Pro, a ground-up redesign built for power users and developers, bringing a massive leap in battery life, a new CNC aluminum chassis, and our first Ubuntu Certified system, all while remaining repairable, upgradeable, and entirely yours.

We've seen a fantastic reception to Framework Laptop 13 Pro, with MKBHD calling it our “best build yet," Linus Tech Tips declaring "The Framework Pro 13 is peak laptop," and Gizmodo naming it "The Best Modular Laptop Ever Made." That builds on years of recognition from outlets like Ars Technica and multiple Wirecutter reviews (including a recommendation among the best Windows Ultrabooks of 2024), along with making TIME's Best Inventions lists in 2021 and 2023. We're incredibly proud to be recognized as #5 on Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies of 2026, proof of our growth since first appearing on the list at #35 on Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies of 2022.

We come from successful consumer electronics startups including the founding team of Oculus, and have closed multiple rounds of funding to fuel our roadmap. The Position

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer based in Taiwan to join our fantastic engineering team to maintain the current and shape the future of Framework products. We are specifically looking for a mechanical engineer who has out-of-the-box design thinking and spirit of taking on design challenges and problem solving ability. The engineer in this role will need to think creatively about form factor, repairability, and manufacturability in ways that are not obvious. That is the challenge, and it’s the opportunity. As a key engineering member in Taiwan, you'll work closely with our designers and engineers, with a high level of influence on our product development. Depending on alignment with requisite scope, this role may be brought on as a Mechanical Engineer or Senior Mechanical Engineer. We’ll align the scope and title to the right candidate!

This role is a full-time hybrid role based in Taiwan, working up to a few days per week in our office in XinYi Dist in Taipei, along with up to 10% local and international travel to partners and our US headquarters.

What You'll Do

• Own the end-to-end mechanical design of modules, from initial ideation through prototyping, on not only the module level but also system level from initial ideation through prototyping, NPI, documentation, and into production.
• Design parts and assemblies across 3D CAD and 2D drawings (3D printed prototyping).
• Manage and oversee the ODMs and external partners on both our new and sustaining products, driving incremental improvements in quality and durability.
• Closely collaborate with our designers and engineers across both Taiwan and the US on novel product development.
• Partner with our design team to develop, mock up, and test prototypes to explore new product concepts and solve design challenges as they emerge.
• Manage DFM, NPI builds, and DOEs with our manufacturing partners
• Work with our quality team to solve the issue from the factory and customers.
• Proactively track and experiment with new technologies, processes, and suppliers to improve our products.

What You Need

• 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering for complex electronics products.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• A background in driving the mechanical development of a product from initial concept through production.
• A strong skill set in mechanical design in CAD, including tolerance analysis, FMEA, and other simulation.
• Experience with plastic injection molding, metal injection molding, die casting, forming, extrusion, high volume CNC, and other mass production processes.
• Expertise designing parts, assemblies, and enclosures in plastics and metals, and bringing up tooling, managing final assembly, and running reliability testing around them.
• Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with other engineers and program managers.
• Strong written and verbal English communication abilities and familiarity with working across time-zones.

What's Nice to Have

• A passion for environmentalism and/or DIY.
• Expertise on design for 3D printing
• Previous work spanning multiple electronics product categories inside or outside of personal computing.
• Expertise with mechanical engineering and product design in a startup.
• Experience working as a remote member of an international team.
