Engineering Talent Community

Performance Drone Works (PDW) is building the next generation of tactical robotic systems used across defense, national security, and public safety missions. We are building a new center of engineering excellence to design our new category of tactical robotic systems and the industrial capacity to deliver them, bringing decisive airpower into the hands of every operator. We are not here to make promises; we are here to deliver real systems with real capabilities for real missions.

You will join a team of operators, engineers, and builders who solve hard problems with humility and focus. We design and produce multi-mission aerial systems that operators trust to perform in real-world conditions, reliably, repeatedly, and at scale. Our approach is grounded in operator-centered design, rapid iteration from field use, and U.S.-based manufacturing. We operate by a clear set of values: Mission First, Aim Farther, Own It, Win Together. This is how we build advantage and how we help protect our service members, our communities, and our country.

This posting is part of our Engineering Talent Community and is intended to build relationships with engineering talent interested in current and future opportunities with PDW's Boston team. This posting may not represent a specific, currently open position. Applications will be reviewed against current and anticipated hiring needs, and our Talent Acquisition team may reach out when an opportunity aligns with your experience and interests.

Applying to this posting does not guarantee consideration for a specific opening. Candidates may be asked to apply to a specific requisition if an appropriate opportunity becomes available.

What You Could Work On

Depending on your background and future opportunities, you may contribute to the design, development, integration, testing, and production of complex unmanned systems and supporting technologies.

Mechanical Engineering

  • Design and analyze mechanical components and assemblies for drones, payloads, and supporting systems
  • Support prototype and production builds, root cause analysis, and validation testing to ensure design integrity

Electrical Engineering

  • Design and develop PCB assemblies and electronic subsystems
  • Create schematics, PCB layouts, fabrication documentation, and assembly drawings
  • Support board bring-up, validation testing, and debugging

Embedded Software Engineering

  • C/C++ development supporting embedded and real-time systems
  • Hardware integration, low-level system development, and deployment on complex embedded platforms

Software Engineering

  • Design and architect robust software systems using C++
  • Develop and deploy cross-platform applications using Qt
  • Design and implement user interfaces with QML

What We Look For

  • Our needs will vary by role and level, but successful engineers typically bring a combination of:
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Hands-on engineering experience within their area of specialization
  • Strong technical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience taking ownership of problems rather than waiting for someone else to solve them
  • Ability to work effectively across engineering disciplines
  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving environment where priorities and technical challenges can evolve
  • A willingness to work directly with hardware, prototypes, test equipment, and production systems when applicable
  • An interest in building products that operate in the real world, not just developing concepts
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to contribute wherever the team needs help
  • Experience with robotics, unmanned systems, autonomous systems, consumer electronics, automotive, industrial automation, or other complex electromechanical products may be especially relevant.

ITAR Requirement

In compliance with International Traffic Arms Regulations (ITAR), candidates must be U.S. Citizens, U.S. Permanent Residents (Green Card holders) or individuals granted asylee/refugee status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).

Benefits

PDW values our team, and we offer a compensation package reflective of your experience and capabilities. Benefits include:

  • Comprehensive BCBS medical, dental, and vision coverage; 80% sponsored by the company.
  • Safe Harbor 401(K) with company match.
  • Paid Parental Leave.
  • A work environment that encourages teamwork and innovation.
  • On-site gym at our Huntsville, AL and Denver, CO locations.
  • Employer provided life insurance.
  • Robust Employee Assistant Program (EAP).
  • Competitive salary, generous paid time off (PTO), and flexible leave options.
