Controller

Our business includes the acquisition and processing of end-of-life lithium-ion batteries and battery materials and the production of recycled black mass and lithium carbonate.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for leading the Company’s accounting function and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of its financial reporting. This role will establish and maintain accounting policies, practices, procedures, and internal controls while overseeing the monthly close, financial reporting, audit, and statutory reporting processes.

The ideal candidate will bring deep technical accounting expertise combined with significant experience in industrial or manufacturing environments and multinational organizations. This individual will be a hands-on accounting leader capable of building scalable accounting processes and controls as R3 grows its operations.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the Company’s accounting function, including general ledger, journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, inventory, and other core accounting activities.
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and supporting schedules.
  • Ensure financial statements are prepared accurately and in accordance with U.S. GAAP and Company accounting policies.
  • Provide technical accounting leadership, including research, documentation, and implementation of appropriate accounting treatment for complex or non-routine transactions.
  • Establish, document, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls appropriate for a growing organization.
  • Oversee manufacturing and inventory accounting, including inventory valuation, standard/product costing, manufacturing variances, capitalization, fixed assets, and other accounting matters associated with industrial operations.
  • Support accounting for capital projects and significant equipment investments, including appropriate capitalization, depreciation, and project accounting.
  • Oversee accounting and reporting requirements associated with multinational operations, including consolidation, foreign currency matters, intercompany transactions, and coordination of local statutory reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate external audits and serve as the primary accounting contact for external auditors, tax advisors, and other accounting professionals.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and international financial reporting and statutory requirements.
  • Partner with the CFO and FP&A to provide accurate and timely financial information supporting management reporting, forecasting, and strategic decision-making.
  • Support implementation and optimization of ERP and other financial systems, ensuring appropriate accounting processes and internal controls are incorporated into system design.
  • Build and develop the accounting organization, processes, and infrastructure necessary to support the Company as it scales.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • CPA required.
  • 7- 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience leading a corporate accounting or controllership function.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and demonstrated ability to research and resolve complex technical accounting matters.
  • Significant accounting experience within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing accounting, including inventory, product costing, fixed assets, capital projects, and manufacturing variances.
  • Experience working within a multinational organization, including exposure to consolidations, foreign currency, intercompany accounting, and international statutory reporting.
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial reporting, month-end and year-end close, audits, and internal controls.
  • Strong ERP experience, including experience implementing or optimizing financial systems.
  • Experience developing accounting policies, procedures, and scalable financial controls.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate independently and effectively in a fast-paced, growth-stage environment.
