Sherman’s: Proudly Not Normal Since ’76 (and Counting!)

Forget everything you think you know about retail. Back in ’76, while the world was doing its thing, Sharon Sherman was busy building something different – a side hustle selling clocks and gifts with a whole lot of heart. Fast-forward nearly half a century, and Sherman’s has blossomed into four locations packed with home appliances, furniture, and mattresses.

Sure, we’ve grown beyond microwaves, but our family values? Rock solid.
Show Concern. Have Fun. Be Helpful. Demonstrate Integrity. Show Ambition. Develop Relationships. These aren’t just words on a wall; they’re the fuel that keeps us going.

Why are we here? Because we’re genuinely passionate about our community. We’re the neighbors who help people turn houses into homes. And it all started because Sharon dared to be different.

Now, about you.

You’re probably not looking for a job where every day feels the same. Good — because this isn’t that.

This role is for someone who likes working with their hands, solving problems, and helping people in a real, tangible way. One day you might be troubleshooting a recliner mechanism, the next you’re color matching a wood finish or repairing upholstery.

There’s real craftsmanship and artistry in this work. The best technicians do more than “fix” furniture — they restore it with care, creativity, and attention to detail, often making repairs nearly invisible.

You’ll need technical skill, patience, communication, and adaptability. Customers are often frustrated before we arrive, so your ability to educate, solve problems, and leave people feeling taken care of matters just as much as the repair itself.

So, What Does “Not Normal” Look Like Day-to-Day?

  • Drive a company sprinter van to customers’ homes to inspect furniture concerns, diagnose issues, and perform repairs
  • Troubleshoot problems, think critically through repair options, and work toward fully resolving concerns in as few visits as possible
  • Communicate directly with customers about what caused the issue, what the repair process will look like, and what solutions are available
  • Use hands-on technical skill, patience, judgment, and creative problem solving to adapt to different furniture types, home environments, and unexpected challenges each day
  • Accurately document repairs, service notes, and next steps to keep customers and teammates informed
  • Deliver a professional, helpful experience that leaves customers feeling taken care of and confident in the service they received

What Makes Someone Successful in This Role

You might be a great fit if you:

  1. Have strong mechanical aptitude and enjoy working with your hands
  1. Enjoy helping people and genuinely care about delivering great customer service
  1. Can troubleshoot problems and think critically through solutions
  1. Are patient, focused, organized, and calm under pressure
  1. Can work independently while still being collaborative with a team

What You’ll Learn

This is a progressive skilled trade position with hands-on training and growth opportunities. You’ll develop skills in:

  • Furniture inspection and repair
  • Wood touch-up and repair
  • Upholstery and fabric repair
  • Leather repair
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting
  • Customer service and communication
  • Safe use of hand and power tools

There are multiple technician levels with opportunities for advancement as skills and certifications grow.

What We’re Looking For

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record
  • At least 1 year of customer service experience
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Preferred:

  • Furniture repair or furniture industry experience
  • Experience working in customers’ homes
  • Experience independently troubleshooting or repairing products

More Than Just Repairs

Every service call is an opportunity to take care of someone. The people who thrive in this role care deeply about helping others and want customers to walk away feeling like they received world-class service — not just a repair.

They are patient, professional, resourceful, and genuinely take pride in doing quality work. They communicate clearly, own mistakes when they happen, keep learning, and leave things better than they found them.

If that sounds like the kind of work you’d feel good about at the end of the day, we’d love to meet you. Apply Today!
